It nice to see a 747 over Christchurch again , truthfully only the third time I have seen the SP variant ... Spiltpin variant ... Nah .. funny how Christchurch is still the exotic place for such aircraft .. fact is its GREAT!

I wonder why the talon was here .... maybe just a navex from Auckland , but still good to see.

Regard to the MC s , they are not so irregular or least the timing to the NASA heavy , much has to with nav track and continuation with 'Operation Deep Freeze'.... be just a follow thru with the Observation aircraft , It got real busy in 1984 during a Navy exercise, that course pre dorky anti nuke policy , the USS Whipple tied up in Lyttleton .. caused a stink , possible simply only a communication transfer backup or to test possible comm's , very handy in emergency's , main thing with the type is the airborne broadcasting so .. , least they are back on our back door step

That is one aircraft I'd really want to do a walk around and climb inside the fiddly bits especially the lens door, with the US and German flag painted on the hull be nice to see the NZ flag on there if only for our interest.
