Bear in mind that access to an international Airport such as Auckland is an extremely difficult prospect - even for people in the industry with access to such areas. 5+ years ago I worked closely with Mike (Creator2003) to get him access for his HamiltonX project. 2 years ago I managed to get airside at NZAA and took a bunch of photo's for him for the initial NZAA work but he needed further photo's which I couldn't provide due to access issues (this may have been the stumbling block for ORBX? I don't know). There may also be intellectual issues surrounding use of airside imagery without the consent of the relevant authority - I'm sure Rob knows of the minefield related to such things!

As it stands I'd love to help wherever I could with such a project given my office is at the base of Auckland Tower!! (I'm sure TowerGuy is the same!!)

That thread over at Orbx is kind of interesting, it does seem that Orbx's keen fans are convinced that if they buy enough NZAAs, then Orbx will start releasing NZ airports again. So their hopes and dreams depend on great sales, turning around previous low sales results for NZ, of something which may or may not happen... I'm aware that anyone who isn't Orbx (like me) has to work hard to compete with that level of fandom, but it does seem to me that the end result is that Orbx are still able to cut the NZ market in two, with or without any further releases.

In the meantime, I've changed my mind about buying FTX NZAA, and I'll put any support I can behind a non-Orbx NZAA.

I'd settle to get me model building going again .. Wigram would have to be first .. CHCH really really really went to the dogs after the last real build.

No wonder the frame rates died .. looking at the airports insides ... so did I ! :(

Funnily enough, I didn't get to check-out Orbx Chch until I took off in my L29 and headed to Lyttelton Harbour for my comp entry this month -- normally I get 50+FPS in FSX, but when it dropped down to <10, I went back to VLC....

Has anyone suggested a reason for this with Orbx active?

By the way, I was using FSX rather than P3D because I couldn't get the L29 to work in P3D.

I'm still doing my VFR tour of the country and I have to say that FTX-NZSI NZCH is definitely causing very poor frame rates.

Still looks pretty good:

It'll be the ground poly. Disable it and try again. I can't render the name of it but it's not hard to figure out

Yup, we did that last October. There is a similar thread here that reckons it's down to scenery complexity. Lowered it to sparse and it does, didn't want a terminal anyway.

I think .. well we all Know Orbx dose not want to build large airport scenery, so we have the base , and this includes VLC so its up to airport build people here who life close by to hook into it , I do know we can get a more personalized airport.

Hi all

ORBX (Ed Correia) have confirmed that:

Quote "Short answer, yes it's being worked on at the moment." unquote. No indication of who the developer is although it could well be Ed.

http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/ ... d-airport/

The reason for the original ORBX version grinding to a halt was due to illness of the developer (Martin Hanare I believe).

Cheers

Can someone point out to the ORBX boys that NZAA is almost sea level so theres no need to screw the elevations this time???

To be fair to them, I think that Orbx have made it very clear that FTX NZ was never intended to work with any other scenery addon, so although there has been a fair amount of grumbling (mainly from me) about them taking liberties with elevations, it was never going to be any other way -- in their business world, none of their customers would want any other scenery.

So the problem isn't with them, it's us, the locals, who are just not plentiful enough. And only half of us 'shifted' to Orbx, which kind of messed up the market for everyone. So those of you who didn't buy into Orbx NZ have messed it up for those who did, and those of you who did should have bought two of everything, to overcome our low population of simmers.

Strangely enough, and this kind of blows me away, is that some local simmers have bought more than one subscription, as a way to show their support. That's one of the reasons why I don't just cut my loses and pack all this in -- I feel that if I did that then NZ scenery may become a lost cause. At the moment I'm writing a post on my site with some results from my Subscriber survey, which cover this. Stay tuned!
