According to their FB page, they were halfway to Kiribati (from Honolulu) 4 hrs ago. I think they are using FlightRadar images - I can't see them on PlaneFinder.

That was one thing that happened back in 1972 , the QANTAS 747B flew around and across Christchurch for a good 30 minutes , much lower , I was sorta hoping for a similar display .. but oh well :)

It's been a while since I've posted on NZFF but thought I'd come back to share a few photos that I know a few of you following this thread will be interested to see.

On behalf of the NZ Av News, who I do a bit of writing for on the side, I was privileged enough to be invited aboard SOFIA for a 10 hour mission down to the Antarctic Circle on Friday night. Riding jumpseat in the SP was an awesome experience in itself, but seeing the Southern Lights first hand was a massive highlight.

Taking photographs of auroa was pretty challanging- and some much better versions by other crewman can be found on the SOFIA facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/SOFIA-St ... -Astronomy. Below are my efforts, which will be accompanied by a lengthy write up in August's issue:

Cool pics Andrew! I've been controlling some of the Sofia flights in the Auckland Oceanic FIR as they crisscross the southern latitudes. Its a novel experience to actually get to SEE the aircraft I'm controlling for a change, so thanks for taking the time to post here!
