There was a Win9 but Microshaft in their infinite wisdom scrapped it along with the entire testing team involved with it (That was all those layoffs remember) and rolled straight into Win10 so technically this is actually 9but it's apparently 10 and 's gonna get real confusing...

Sure thing. This guy, was one of the guys on the testing team responsible for finding and fixing bad code, he was one of the ones laid off...

When Windows Explorer meant you had to take a sherpa with you when you looked for your files...

Funny the ole win3 was very stable as a business machine , and to do math for quotes , creating a program for it was relatively simple for the time , the PC that had this OS in engineering bizz was still cooking early 2000s .. but i would doubt it could anything else other than space invaders.

I tried doing a fresh install, and it only gave me a certina country, I couldn't install english.

Haven't found anything to say why yet, but random.

My windows 7 is a work copy, but as I no longer use this PC for the company I used to work for, I want to use my own license, but as it's a different version it's not loving me at the moment :)

I have been running the release candidate on my laptop and so far it seems ok. Nothing earth shattering...just a little confusing finding stuff. I have not tried P3D or any other flight sim o it though. It would probably choke and die with P3D anyway. Anything is better than Vista though.......I did try to convince the family to name our dog Vista.
I am not sure about the forced updates though. I prefer to wait a few days to see if there are any bugs in the patches.
Could be an issue if you are on limited data and big update like a service pak comes along.

'FSX didn't like Windows 8'..... i think i may have said that , and i said it because , on my system at least it didn't like it.
Not he said she said ..... or heard some place else.
Fsx will stop for no reason , and give no explanation ..... (xp didn't) resets to default settings on every start (xp didn't) and Im finding it almost impossible to add extra paints to a model .(didn't happen in xp)

Maybe its just me .

Just one thing -- I had no end of trouble with FSX on the Win 8 machine when it was new, but these issues were all to do with shifting to 64 bit. As far as I'm aware, FSX has no problem with Windows 8, but it has a lot of problems on any 64 bit system.

EDIT: the reason why I mentioned this was the bit about stopping for no reason, I can recall having to just about keep the error reported open continually, to debug it.

But the other issues seem like the problems that people have with UAC, which is easily fixed by shifting FSX out of the access-controlled program system.

If you are running SLI, don't expect DX12, it's not yet compatible with SLI, you'll only get DX11. If you are running nVidia period, their Win10 drivers are..... Beta.... With Steam they are recommending you verify your game files, half of people are reporting things are working fine, the other half, nothing is working at all.

As for me, nVidia drivers, at first it told me I only had one monitor and no graphics card (Went a little Thunderdome on it's ass) now that problems sorted. No Windows Aero despite applying the fix *grumble*, navigation for me coming off Win7 is like crushing my nuts in a vice, tho I did figure out if I right click on the start menu I get a lot of the old start menu without metro sexual, I mean central. Won't even start on the install issues... Yet to load games up.

I'm installing FSX on it now, and acceleration. I do have P3D, but I forgot to uninstall it before I did the reinstall, and now it's said I'm out of activations.

Email to P3D, apparently can take two working days to get a reply...

Will let you know how I get on.

Sounds like you hit a snag, the update is supposed to carry over all previous installations etc (Unless obviously if not compatible)

Got Win10 on two machines and installed FSX on one of them, appears to be running fine so will probably install Win10 on my main machine sometime in the next couple of months if nothing serious turns up.

Still don't really like the new menu system but it's a LOT better than the one that came with Win8 so can live with it but have also installed Classic Shell Start Menu so I can use either depending on what I want to do and use (Shift-Win key gives me the Win10 menu, anything else gives my Classic Start Menu.

Overall the updates have proceeded fine with no issues.

There is one thing that I will need to do on my main machine when I upgrade it and that is to DL and install the software from Microsoft which allows me to prevent updating of various drivers - I'm talking about NVIDIA here as their later updates always seem to make my card perform less efficiently!

Otherwise, all is good.
