Nice one Mike Its amazing to compare the construction between three types for the same period 1935 ... Tho not a Lodestar, a Lockheed Hudson, the other two , course the Douglas DC-3 and the other almost a complete step back in time the Avro Anson , it really is amazing to check out the design ideas .. Ole Milt's Lockheed is typical off the brilliant models produced .. So so

Were these aircraft ever operated in Australia or New Zealand? I cannot recall any. Have yet to try the packaged sim model yet.

Yes indeedo , Operated in New Zealand , there was even a case were a Wally tried to steal one .. but well known in the late 1940s

The one in Wanaka , well was to fly back in 1994 maybe 1996 .. just did not did certified ! BUGGER! ... now a Museum piece in Wanaka .

Thanks for the info did a bit more digging about came up with several operators in OZ, including none than our former domestic carrier, Trans Australian. Seems the type was quickly got rid of after another operator, long gone now, Queensland Airlines lost one on take off in southern Queensland, with severe aft CoG problem which pitched nose up uncontrollably on rotation, 22 people were killed including the chief pilot. The usual barney afterwards as to who was to blame, questions to the Minister etc., so some things never change.

Now here is hoping for a repaint from somebody in the TAA colours and the NZ Colours. I cannot do this to save myself too many thumbs and, and, and/

Now ZKF the Kotare with the aluminium and red stripe would be very tasty!

Amazing Eh! This morning on FlightSim. Anyway here is the outcome, nice paint very nice and captures period well (1952-1953). Just starting out with this one. Ground handling is challenging, flap changes are pitchy and elevator trim is not very effective or fast either, needs some interior and alternative views to enjoy other asects of full and authentic interior etc. Very nice. Still amazed at the livery and paint job turning up!! Oh and I found the early NZ National Airways is up as well.

Tho this is the Lodestar, it is an experience to compare the Hudson to the DC-3 and to the Avro Anson all designed around the same era but different methods in construction, this what made the Lockheed Constellation stick it nose in with the streamline and speed, Kelly Johnson nailed it.

Try setting up those views with EZcam if you dont have any other camera program.

Be interesting to see the crash report on the the 'Doomed' Queensland Airlines aircraft, never heard about but one thing I read on the Lodestar was the heavy baggage in the nose and to really pack it in, surprised a company test pilot should have checked that ..

Quite an interesting read, when the UC retracted that would added to the final straw, the weight off the wheels going back was enough to finish them off.
