OK so the vote is on here is my informal vote, OK so it wont be counted but it is one less vote to changing the flag.
I would like to know why it wasn't included in this vote it would have saved the money and time on having a second vote next year.
But then again JK wouldn't of got his flag option to change too wouldn't that be a shame.

Voting was trickier than I thought, I've gone off including the southern cross, and Red Peak is starting to look like an adventure clothing logo...
However I stick with my original choice, the koru.

My flatmate asked me to throw away her voting paper, I tried to convince her that not voting isn't the same as a vote for the current flag, but she wouldn't budge.

It's all about things like the RWC.
Here are the two finalists waving their blue flags, the ones with some stars and a union flag top left - no wonder the northern hemisphere had a bewildered look, and just lost interest.

I have biffed my voting papers, none of the alternatives will do the job required.

I am going to spend my energy on getting the Ozzie cousins to go Republic instead!
Once they have a red flag bearing a kangaroo there's no more confusion, is there??

My thinking too, why should we change if the Aussies are confused then it's up to them to make the switch!!

Well, preliminary results are in for the first referendum, and not surprisingly the exact opposite of my vote, with my 1 to 5 simply reversed. This does leave me with my least favourite up against the current flag...

Not my prefered flag, but I think I still prefer old blue.

I guess it might grow on me in the meantime, but is that a good thing?
At least if it remains the current flag this time, a future flag change could happen (hopefully with a better candidate).
Having said that, I don't know what a good candidate would be...I'm not expecting something to jump out at me, you can't put every national icon on the flag.....

That's my thought at the moment, I suspect that the whole thing was a bit rushed, with not a lot of actual design input, so we might be better off leaving it, and trying again with a very different selection method in a year or two.

EDIT: was talking to my daughter this morning via Skype, we haven't discussed the flag at all, so was amused to find that her vote was the same as mine -- the opposite of everyone else:) She's certainly a chip off the old block...

I didn't bother to send in my voting form, was it just a JK ploy not to include the current flag in with that lot to try and persuaded that the current flag isn't and option in the change the flag debate.

There's a very good item on the referendum here. Yes, the old flag will be retained, but it won't be forever, just until we get a proper flag. This may happen in my lifetime, but it may not. I'm not sure if I voted, I left the sealed envelope ready to go on my desk when I went to Dunedin, and when it came back it was gone... either my flatmate posted it for me, or she 'lost' it....

Oh my. Is that the sound of $26 million dollars being flushed down the toilet? Yes I do believe it is.

...been following this debate....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-35888474

...and I must say, that personally, I'm glad to "old flag" was retained....its the one that most folks recognise as being the; "New Zealand" flag!

Its familiar!

To represent the present population the USA, the stars and stripes flag with be replaced with the flag of South Africa and South America.

The Union Flag of the United Kingdom will be replaced with the flag of South Africa and the Arab League.

The rest of Europe will have to make it up as they go along!

Countries are fast losing their original identity!

Paul....a very ancient Briton!.... :D ...!
