What works in PP3D update.... i can hear you yawning .

Postby Splitpin » Tue Dec 01, 2015 7:34 pm

I imagine you are getting bored with me and my new found medium , but the more i try , the more i find .
By simply moving the complete aircraft file from fsx to the other one , Ive had a 99%success rate .... so far.

Today i managed to get the wbs Mustangs to work , seems its only that RNZAF paint it has problems with.
Captainsim Herc is fine , as you know , so is the KBT offering for fs9/fsx.... all the Razbam i tried works , the Airtruk really surprised me ... all the virtavia fsx stuff , and now the RealAir spitfire (that made me happy) ... the simshed Nimrod etc etc
Anyway ... blah blah i know , but i really think that the way PP3D displays these , is the way the developers intended them to look.
There are issues with some of the panels (vulcan and Orion for example) but the herc and the spitfire are perfect ... but enough of that ...have a look .

I thought that, the fact that some of these old models work in such a "heralded " platform would be of note.
Obviously not .... anyway , I'm having a ball .....

It's certainly a valuable resource, putting this together, but I suspect that the P3D3 take-up will be very slow here. So keep it coming, maybe it'll help to tip the balance for a lot of people. As I've probably said already, getting compatible stuff for a new sim is all fun and games the first few times, but after a few upgrades it becomes a bit of a chore, almost enough to keep a lot of people happy with their current lot.

Seeing the Realair spit there certainly got my interest. But then again I've been using P3D for a while, so I wasn't too surprised seeing in working in v3.

I've upgraded my internet plan this month, all ready for the 10GB download or whatever it is, I just need to pull my credit card back from the brink of disaster:)

And of course simming is a bit of a winter past-time, with days like today the computer is just an unwanted heat source...

Slightly off topic Marty, how do you rate the Stang? I love the A2A one but I do want a Mustang III. What's it like on systems and overall atmosphere? Great shots btw

Nick , I have both models and to be honest , apart from the accu thing i think their on a par.
The thing that i like about the WBS model is , that's all the did ....100% effort into a P51 , with all the variations.
It flies as i imagine a stang would .... and little things like the animated pilot do it for me (I'm easily amused ) unlike the unconscious guy in the A2A model.

The only thing i can fault on the WBS one is , the awful sound of the airflow over the guns (odd whistle) which I'm sure is accurate , but i found the file and dumped it.
The detail on the WBS model is amazing , right down to individual serial numbers ...etc etc.

I must try the A2A one in PP3 and check it out from a visual point of view .
Thanks for stopping by .

Fly safe.

Cheers Rob , good reply.... didn't mean to sound rude , just had a long day (no excuse)
Im now running FS9 ,FSX, P3D3 , and as of last night DCS ..... but the Lockheed Martin offering has really hooked me.

All that aside , re your "simming is a bit of a winter past-time " ..... Robo , I sim in +30c ..... -10c , seasonal , it is not

P3D 3.0 is an outstanding achievement, the best sim platform I've ever had by some distance.

By far the most exciting thing about 3.0 for me was that VC clickspots now work on FS9 models, which has made my hangar of portovers and FS9 native aircraft fully functional again. That's a huge improvement for backwards compatibility.

The next point release update is due before the end of the year as well.

Well I'm loving the smoothness, even at low framerates...the cloud shadows, the cockpit shadowing and the clouds in general..

So far got the following working in P3DV3 (some of thse have P3Dv3 installers)

Orbx NZNI, NZSI and PNW and HD trees
Lotus L-39 (yahhh!)
Justflight Chipmunk
Ants Tecnam & Tiger Moth
FR P-40N
Dinos Tomcat & MB 326
Carenado 210 & 185
Alabeo Waco & Staggerwing
Realair Lancair and Spitfire
Flight 1 Islander is working okay apart from the KLN-90
REX
Mikes Hamiton & Taupo (although Taupos aerial underlying photo is a bit washed out - if anybody could let me know how to disable the aerial in this and Hamilton it would be appreciated))
Che's New Plymouth

What doesn't work for me
Baytowers Rv-7 (theres a work around which I haven't tried yet)
WBS Mustang ....but since SP has got it going - I must try harder

When I have time I wil try get all my Sibwing Aircaft installed and my Aerosoft An-2, Wilga and Catalina

The biggest issue is that my A2A aircraft don't work unless I buy them all over again with P3D installers!

Taupo: Go to your Taupo folder, then scenery subfolder and disable taupo_ground.bgl (I chose to keep mine activated as it is quite a good match for Rob's subscription photoscenery of that area).
Hamilton: Go to your Hamilton folder, then scenery subfolder and disable HamiltonX_Photo_02.bgl and HamiltonX.bgl (which is the higher resolution airport background).

Aerosoft aircraft are the only ones I've had problems with so far. Because of the custom sound configuration, they all need a new ASC.dll for 3.0 which hasn't been issued yet. I have the Bronco, Catalina and Polar Twin Otter (from Antarctica X) installed but the engines power down after startup. Perhaps I should learn how to start from cold and dark?

I use symlinks and registry hacks to get around the lack of P3D 3.0 installers, and have done since P3D 2.0. It's a similar approach to what's used by the Estonia Migration Tool except I do it manually to keep full control of what's going on. It fools any installer to install into P3D 3.0. Once it's set up, it works like a charm.

Basically, in ProgramData\Lockheed Martin, Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin and \Documents, I have symlinks for Prepar3D and Prepar3D v2 which point to the actual P3D data folders, Prepar3D v3. I've also recreated the registry keys for both P3D 1 and 2 which point to the actual P3D root folder. If you also change your FSX registry key to point to the P3D root folder and pop a copy of fsx.exe in that folder, FSX installers will install to P3D.

For the A2A Spitfire, I changed the FSX registry key to point to P3D before installing the aircraft and Accu-Sim. Then the Spitfire update was a P3D 2.0 installer so it went to P3D 3.0 via the symlinks. The latest Accu-Sim core was P3D 3.0 compatible anyway so installed directly into the correct folder.

Hope that helps,

Ade
