Decided to put the machine to work. Ferrying fuel and supplies to a job site. A lot harder in the sim than in real life.

This is good news...
I've long wondered how much situational awareness you lose in the sim - I suspected a great deal.
On top of this, I reckon there is a quite narrow band of fidelity which means about half my helo flights end up in slew mode at some point to collect it all together!

More and more I am an autopilot rotary wing simflyer.

Proper controls and track IR would make like a lot easier. When you're doing it for real, you've got your head out the door but you can just flick your head up to look at the engine instruments and the horizon

Good post, I sometimes watch through my window when a chopper is delivering stuff to one of the top sections above Lyttelton. I've often wondered what it costs for an hour or two of this -- sometimes they make dozens of trips from the Summit Road, but I would imagine that it wouldn't be cheap....

Depending on what you're using, commercial rates for something like a Squirrel are up around $2500 p/h. You can do quite a lot in an hour if the operator is good.
