The phone call

Postby Splitpin » Wed Mar 16, 2016 5:49 pm

I always carry my phone with me , but this afternoon for some reason i left in the workshop while i tested a big 20mtr boom lift .
Got her up to full height (in the bloody rain) and shut it down to test the emergency lower ... and i heard my phone ringing down below , so down i came .
Seemed i missed a call from an "unknown person " ..... i never pick up a call if i dont know the number anyway. (odd i know)
Shortly after i receive a txt from none other than Big D himself (Doug) with some info i needed , and that was followed by a call.

We had a bit of a chat , which was nice , Doug you dont sound any different (its been about 3 years) , and Ive added you to my contacts list.
Reckon i will see you sunday ... i see the rain is off and is now just cloud . Still not sure if i will depart saturday and stop a night at a motel , or do the one day thing .... i will advise.

Ah, but you've obviously forgotten about the daily espresso (or two or three) - something to look forward to!

I am indeed heading north this weekend ... rain or shine.
Plan to depart at about midday , with my younger brother on board . Found a nice motel with a good rate ... not sure of the exact location (charles street)
My boss even gave me the use of a work ute in return for leaving a few business cards here and there B-) , which was nice.

So , all going well , the pin and pinbro , will in be in the top of the south , just in time for cocktails :) ....as you do .

It will be interesting to know your total driving mileage for the trip, Marty?

I never was one for car-driving/motorbike-riding high mileage, even though England is not very big!... ....!

Will it include the ship ferry crossing between South and North Island?

The whole of US Route 66 (2,500 miles) is always in my dreams...and that's where it will stay!.... ...!

Paul....local explorations only.... :D ...!

Marty's trip North is from Christchurch to Blenheim a round trip of approx 380 miles and no he doesn't go across the straights on the ferry.

The war birds have a fly day on Sunday the 20th at Omaka from 9.30 am until 2.30 pm with some flying and ground display of some heritage aircraft.

Well we have arrived in Douglas County (big D). ..and it's hot ! Great drive up , hardly any traffic at all.
Small aircon problem with the truck but all will be good. Will get checked into the motel and then visit Doug and Ina and maybe catch Mike as well.
Looking forward to the morning , weather looks like it's going to play ball.

Just back in chc ... Big D , sorry we didn't make it back to your place this afternoon ..things got a bit pear shaped and i just needed to head south before it got to dark. (the old eyes are no good after sunset)
The time we had with you and Mike was great , and as per my txt , may be repeated soon.
Had a great look around the heritage centre with Mike (and the bro) ...just a shame the "flying day"didn't happen , with no apparent reason why . But thats life .
Looking forward to catching up with Mike in CHC over the next few days.

As a side note , i have to say that the top of the south really is the place to be .... yes you have shakes , but my goodness you have a whole lot more , i would be up there in a flash if i could get work.

Funny you should say that, Marty.... :wink2: .....

During my daily explorations of different parts of the World...(US South West; California, etc.. :wink2: ...)....I have often wondered if any of my Flight-Sim Chums, on various Forums, wished that they lived somewhere else nicer, or had the opportunity to move to somewhere else much nicer....

...where would it be?.... ...!

Me?

Apart from Sunny California (I love the scenery!), I'm normally quite happy where I am in England (Herefordshire)....encapsulated in bloody hedgerows*....

...I just wish it was bloody warmer, and less miserable, and less bloody hedgerows bordering roads, all year round!... ...!

Paul....off to sunny Santa Monica in my Cessna 150.... ....!
