Some days are good ... and some are ... not so good.

What an arse of a day ! All 12 long hours of it ....Im too old for this stuff.
The weather was perfect , 26c , light nor wester , but the rest was a never ending stream of bull dust

As of April 4th , the new health and safety act came into play , i understand the reasoning for it ... but , my god .
Today , a whole new system of "pre operation" checks was introduced (where i work) and it has added at least 15 minutes to each check i do , most of it unnecessary repetition .
So , as a result Im tired , grumpy ... did i mention tired.
The thing that bothers me is , these new rules go out the window if the machine in question has been promised (quick turnaround) ...and they are the ones i dont ... and wont sign off , and that is starting to piss off those who pay(and i dont care)
Whats wrong with telling Joe X ... yes we have one on the way in , once its checked and ok , I'll let you know.
Sorry .... it may seem , and most likely is , just trivia .... but for me , rules are rules , no matter how irritating , but when they are short circuited for the sake of a few dollars ... then Im out.

All that aside .... what about this weather? amazing mid May ...26 c with an overnight low of 9c ... and 21 on thursday :) ....dont ya love global warming

Obviously my brain case decided what is working and what is not, people decided i'm not safe... Had it been WWII it would not have been an issue ... I'M LUCKY to have my artwork for backup , I get bloody furious over this argument , ... they say the more apt younger's are better at the job ...... Many can't even tell what happened Yesterday ! Go figure ... as I said I'm lucky to have a Talent and walk the streets , ..... I'm planning a trip to the Christchurch Art center with full package very shortly , THIS WEEK HAS BEEN GOOD ! :)

I hear you SP. If you really want to go insane then try working on an Aussie mining site.
My next door neighbour is a diesel mechanic over there in Mackay. He needs a supervisor to sign off a form every time he uses even a small stool to stand on for a job. He can pull these machines to bits but he is prohibited from even starting them. He needs to requisition a driver to start it and that can take up to a day. He could also wait for more than an hour for a supervisor to sign off on using a stool.
The lack of productivity is staggering.

I was very involved in the implementation of OH&S legislation here in Oz in the early 1980s. At that time, there were genuine efforts to make workplaces safer, but now, the bureaucrats are running riot, inventing new rules so that people and companies can be fined for breaking them; after all, that is what pays the bureaucrats' salaries.
I know where you are at , Marty. As chairman of an OH&S Committee, I made myself unpopular with both management and unions by saying that as policy, while I would not accept 'production needs' as an excuse for unsafe working, by the same token I would not accept 'safety' as an excuse for stopping production. The obligation is on everyone to do it right all the time, not just when it is convenient.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Thanks for the input guys ... didn't mean to drone on about it .

As i said ... i understand the reasoning behind the new rules , i admire the fact that this company has put systems (annoying as they are ) in place to fit into the new system .... but its their willingness to bypass these for the sake of a dollar , that really disgusts me .... so , i will continue to follow the standard ( as of April 4th) ...and flatly refuse to sign off anything that isn't right.
On their shoulders it will rest.... not mine .

Seriously thinking about throwing it in , which is sad, because i really enjoy the environment , the staff (most of them) , but i will not be party to cheating for the sake of money when lives may be involved.

Marty .. all the above .. OSH have overstepped the boundary, there are DUMB people that should not even be allowed anywhere an industrial work-site but there are the real thinkers with a brain case that not only are the the real thinkers thinking outside and looking after mates .... they are the ones you want .... for those who are paper pushers and get paper cuts .... tuffen up !

Don't be too hasty there Marty. It will take time for this new legislation to bed in.
I'm glad to see that you have high standards.
Jobs are not quite so easy to come by now so perhaps make sure you have something in the "wings" first?
After all there are a few good FS products coming round the corner and you will need to feed that habit with $$$$$!

I am forever glad that I retired in 1984 from my trade as an electrical engineer since 1950, well before all the daft European rules and regulations, health and safety rules/stupidity, etc...etc...came into force, and crippled normal sensible working practices carried out by common-sense skilled engineers and tradesmen.
The world has now gone mad!
I'm just very glad that I'm no longer involved in; "working practices".

Paul...in Happy Retirement!.... ....!
