Dodgy dealings

Worked most of the today , and when i got home i felt the need for some retail therapy.
Other than books and flightsim stuff , i collect real and replica military hats / caps etc .
Ive been looking for a particular Luftwaffe visor cap for some time and stumbled across a site called WW2SALE which had the very one i wanted.
Anyway .. made an account , put it in the cart and proceeded to check out.... first thing i noticed was no little padlock on the top bar (meaning its not a secure site) , so i backed out ( no c/c info given) and sent them a please explain email.
Within minutes i had a reply from them ... "just give us your detail and we process your order " , to which i replied not until i can see a secure payment system.
No reply ... so i googled again , and found they are a dodgy bunch ... lots of reports of complete crap arriving , product photos stolen from other sites , and more.

I have since found a site in Germany/UK (joint) that produce exact replicas , and are 100% reputable .... but unfortunately not (at this stage) the one i want .

Pays to check the little things . (like the little green padlock)

Good on you for noticing, many people would have missed that in the rush to order some new goodies.
Even the padlock is no guarantee that they are honest but at least it means your transaction is less likely (depending where you are logging in from) to be monitored by other baddies.

Just waiting to see why a Flight Manual, ordered and paid for on18/5 and supposedly available for download within 48 hrs has yet to make an appearance...

Same can be said for some Dodgy FS PC outfit .... Don't mention the Sunderland , I wonder , what about these military clubs around, they must know good reputed sale or catalogue , you met Gary he would of some help in this department.

Good point Ian ... would like to catch up with him and have a chat.
Im not into the uniform thing ...did that for too long in the real world ... just the hats.
I just got hold of an SS officers hat , made by the company that did the original ones , very well made.
Had a few negative comments about it , but its history , and Im not endorsing in anyway what that cap stood for ... its just a hat and now relegated to history.

I do think that plenty of people have a lot more courage than me -- I can never bring myself to give my credit card details to anyone except the big stores. If possible I'll use Paypal, which lets me use my credit card without giving the details to some amateur marketeer, conman or just some poor devil who has no clue about how to look after my details.

I wonder if New Zealanders use Paypal more than they used to -- it's such a great system, but with a bit of a rough past which gave it a shady reputation.

I'm feeling a bit guilty reading your post, Marty, as I know that although my site uses a secure connection, I can never get the padlock fully green:)

I've set a Paypal now for international sales, most New Zealand sale are done via bank, I should check and see what the percentage is.

Marty, I never thought tonight, Gary stopped here with art related for that De Havilland Tiger Moth group outside Gore, Manderville so he will be in contact tomorrow, I'll keep that in mind for.

Mike , there is something definitely wrong with this world ... Its like my vodaphone bullshite squared everything cos it was recommend to stick with all the contacts I have so it should have leveled out this month should have 79.95 on the plan is to change 15 June to 89.95 ..... last month bill 97.23 cents !!!!!? ... you get on phone to find out what is going ... you don't an answer .. some 'bloody wog' in another country !

I'm the same Rob. One thing I've done recently is got myself a debit-card and only ever have a couple of hundy on it at any time. Use that for purchases at the smaller stores that require a card, the worst I can lose is whatever the balance is, and there's no overdraft so relatively safe.

A debit card is a very good idea. I have a US one for my US purchases. Despite numerous requests from Westpac for me to raise my credit limit on my NZ Visa card I resist and keep it deliberately low. To what I could live with if it all goes pear shaped.
