I guess a phone can be a curse, but really it is also a great tool in some respects. Phone apps are generally designed to be as simple as possible, just enough to get the job done, so although I can do just about everything on the PC, sometimes the phone is easier.
I don't remember the last time anyone dialed my number, though, I do use it a lot to talk to the kids via Skype, but you don't talk to people via the cellphone network, unless they are tradespeople, support, accounts folk, debt collectors(!) or the tax man.
My phone gives a very quiet gentle notification of any emails, so I can just glance at it and see if it's something important, then I'll sit down at the PC.
Then there's the 'chat' aspect, which has a bad name, I know, but for someone like me with a lot of family living a long way away, it's a life-saver. For instance today I've had a link to the Timaru Herald with a photo of my grandson, plus my ex-wife sent me this link -- male-extras-1870s-gold-mining-period-feature-film-canterbury/ simply because it might be fun...
I do have my winter beard coming in, so I'm thinking of giving it a go...
Something tells me on-set I'd have to give up my phone for the day, though!
And lastly, there's Spotify, which gives me complete access to any song ever recorded, wherever I am, mainly on the bus...

I was given one of those Mobile Phone thingies many years ago by my Granddaughter for use when out and about on my Motorcycle.

£25 phone, pay-as-you-go, top-up....I top it up with a couple of £'s every few years just to keep it connected!

It is ALWAYS switched off, at all times, and is only carried with me, when on my bike, in case I have to call the (AA) break-down service for recovery....
...never had to do it so far, even thought it costs me £120 every year, for many years, for the breakdown recovery luxury!

The screen is so small that I cant see the writing on it...and only in a darkened room, and the volume is so low that I cant hear anything (I am already a bit deaf), there is always an annoying delay in the conversation as the signal goes to the constellation of Alpha-Centauri and back again, the battery is always flat, and when I press a button to speak, all I get is a bloody photo of my left ear!

Useless bloody things!

For communication, more fun can be had with two empty bean tins and a length of interconnecting string.....

...trust me!... :wink2: ...!

If I see someone walking around in the supermarket, or anywhere else, talking into one of the things, I am overwhelmed with an urge to kick them in the nuts...(or whatever else they have in place)... ...!

Paul...Stop the World...I want to get off!.... ....!

..... ... ...!

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

One thing I did notice/caught me this afternoon again - well this would be the near half doz times ... on the front wall is WWW.AVIATION-ART-IN-ACTION.COM , a phone is for communication or they do have there possible safety fix's if alone ... wonder what they did 30 years back ... people talking for real ..

OK , I have signage on my front wall , today was good one , summer temps, out the front doing a weed kill .. two girls from the local school walking past point up at the signage ... Said "its you" , they must have checked the website , surely they really enjoyed the fact I raced in and brought out the portfolio , not the first time .. so it show's these young peoples are using there eyeballs rather using phones !

Its called self promotion , every where I go I carry that art portfolio ... I do not own a phone ... I speak to people real time and with meaning and ideas rather hide behind a communicator... SAMSUNG may need to take a leaf outta my book.

 Great reading the posts that followed ..... thing is ..... -_- I still have the bloody thing , haven't had time to go and get a replacement.
I understand the sentiments re talking face to etc , but my job dictates the need for a phone , plus its my link to mumble during the day.
Will have to do something this weekend.
Paul ... i agree , stop the world i want off .

My dear old Mum and Dad never owned a telephone...or even a motor car...for the whole of their lives!
(Dad used motorbikes during 1950-1960)

I didn't own a telephone until I was forced? into getting one installed to go on-line with Dial-up Internet and Freeserve in 1998.
Before that I used Telephone Call Boxes if I needed to phone someone.

My only use for the land-line telephone now (apart from the Internet) is to phone friends and family for free, during the evenings and week-ends, care of my Service Provider (TalkTalk and Freeserve).
...so without a mobile phone...I don't phone anyone...and they don't phone me!... ...!

Its amazing just how peaceful and quiet my days and nights are....
...especially when no-one uses land-line telephones, or Internet e-Mail any more!!.... :D ...!

...all that sort of stuff seems to be carried out on Apple i-phones, and the dreaded Facebook, Twitter, Whatever, etc, etc!

I can do without all that bloody aggravation!... :P ...!

Paul.....living in peaceful, olden day times... ... ...!

I am firmly rooted in 1950, Ian!.... :wink2: ....!

I even edited one of my Motorcycle videos into "black-and-white", to represent the trip in the 1950's!

....In 1950 the whole World was black-and-white...trust me!
Only "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" introduced a bit of colour into it, in the 1930's...for a while!

Paul......Sing: "Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, its off to Sainsbury's I go!"... ... ... ...!
