crook moggy

Dear old Whitney aka Lankey has had a bit of a turn.
He was fine yesterday , but was out later than normal. My partner (who worships him) went out to call him ... he appeared out of the darkness but he was odd.
Very slow , and seemed confused. He slept on the bed last night , but this morning when i went to feed him , he just fell over on his side ... still awake , and stood up again.
Again , this afternoon , i was moving some furniture and he semi collapsed but recovered as quickly.
Hes eating (which is good) but Im not sure.
Hes at least 13 years old , and has a history of kidney problems , but , not being a vet i cant find a correlation .

The falling over is symptomatic with a cat stroke (thanks google) as is his confusion and slowness.
Anyway , we will monitor him through the night , and if hes the same or worse in the morning .. its off to the 24 hour vet ($$$)

Im prepared for a worse case situation ... but she (partner) is far from it. This old moggy is the most loved , over indulged feline on the planet .. and She wont take it well at all.

Sorry to hear that, although you never know -- cats can sort themselves out amazingly well. Not that the vet isn't your best bet.

I fully sympathise with Whitney.... :( ...!

Being of a similar age, (in Cat Terms), I find myself hanging onto all sorts of things as I walk around, to stop myself from falling over.

My "Semicircular Canals*" don't work as good as they used to, in the Olden Days!

I carry a "Spirit Level" with me now, to check if I am fully upright!
...(except when I am in bed)... :sleepy: ...!

Paul..... :D ...!

Well ... just as i posted the topic , one of the lads came and said the cat was strange .
Into the cat bag ... into the car and off to the vet .
Not sure what it is or was ... may have been a mini stroke . He has a heart murmur , and was a bit dehydrated .
They gave him some vitamin b , and some hydration stuff under his skin .... so fingers crossed.

Thanks for your thoughts ...hes not just a cat (to me) he's a mate who over the years , through all sorts of trouble , has at least seemed to offer some comfort, albeit in an off hand feline way <_<

Anyway , the skinny little bugger owes me $150 +fuel ..... fat chance :)

..... ....!

That's the trouble with owning animals, (or Human Females)!
They can cost you a bomb, with or without Animal Insurance!

It cost one of my lads loadsa money to insure his beloved female dog*, every month, against Vet bills, etc!

Good to know that Whitney is on the up-and-up tho', Marty!.... ....!

Paul...devoid of animals and human females!... ...!

* She was a beautiful Rescue female Dog, and terrified/petrified of me...for some reason or other!...maybe I looked like, or smelled like, her previous abusive owner!

When I was growing up, and even through my first marriage, I always had a dog, and I guess I considered myself a dog person. However when I 'inherited' my cat, Yoshi, from my ex-wife, along with my daughter, when she and her new husband moved away, I discovered a real difference between dogs and cats -- so much so that I became more attached to the cat than I'd ever been to any dog I had. I love their self-sufficiency, and the way they pick up on your mood without the manic behaviour you get from dogs.

Maybe not the best place to post this, I did mention some time ago -- in the previous cat discussion:) -- that my cat was getting old, and having some health problems. About six weeks ago he got an infection in his eye, so I called the vet -- the Little River vet visits Diamond Harbour once a week, so there's no travel charge, but since it is once a week, I had to wait through the weekend. Yoshi didn't make it through the weekend, though. He was eighteen, as near as I can calculate.

It did hit me hard, that's for sure. After a month, I received a sympathy card in the mail from the vet, who had never actually treated Yoshi, and I kind of broke down again, which frightened my flatmate.

So I've got my fingers crossed for Whitney, and as I said earlier, they can come through some very rough stuff -- Yoshi used to disappear under the verandah for days when he felt sick (he had an old dog kennel under there, with a duvet to keep him warm), and after I while I would think that he wouldn't come out this time, but he would always bounce back.

Yip keep them warm ! , one thing with Mars, if he looked a little crook I plopped him in front me while on the PC .. especially even only if it cold , he would sleep there , maybe it was the mice on the table , if I needed to go back to that PC I just slid him across , didn't move, same position and went back to sleep .... that is, was a real PC Cat !

The million dollar mog is doing ok.
Didn't get much sleep last night , kept getting up to check him.
He had another small turn at about 1230 last night ..... but by 2am he was eating , bowels and bladder were working.
Haven't seen any more "fainting" so far today ..... so fingers crossed.

Hes watching CNN at the moment ... on my chair

Ahhh ... i know , hes just a cat ... but you take them on unconditionally .

Moggys ... B-)

I have a love/hate relationship with my neighbours Cats.

I love the neighbours cats (occasionally), except when they seem to be trained by their owners to crap on my garden lawns!

The pile of bricks piled beside my back door seems to frighten most of them off before the crap process starts... ;) ...!

I'm sure that Whitney and I would get on like a house on fire, Marty, as long as he didn't empty his bowels on my my immaculate garden lawn, prior to me mowing it!

My problem with my bowels is taken care of with the Herefordshire Council annual cost of sewerage, and its disposal thereof... ...!

Cats do it for free!.... :o ...!

Paul.....Boy!...I needed that!.... ...!

Paul , least they are cleaner than dogs , I went on a work-site .. 'it was bad' .. dogshit all over the property/show, most cats well trained at least really clean up after themselves, one thing, if a cat is well taught in its early years, not a problem, both LF and Mars had that teaching and very well house and property trained ... Mars was simply amazing ... ... that's my thoughts on one cat, LF was a little funny, a female furline but decide to stick with me back in 1999 .. that's all history now.

I can remember when Mum and Dad always had Cats......and Tortoises....

..and for a few years, I also had Cats.

The last one, in 1970, a black-and-white male, named Billy.

But Cats and Dogs take some time looking after, and I lost patience after a while....
...and I just feed the Garden Birds now... :D ...!

I still have a great affection for Tortoises....The most harmless creatures you could ever come across!.. ...!

...but they often go; "walk-abouts".... ...!

Paul.... :D ...!

I don't know about the clean bit. If you're talking dog shite, cats bury it sure. Most dogs tend to poop in the same place. I would take Roxy outside at night and tell her 'go toilet' and she would. After that, it's the owners responsibility to clean up. If it's the dog's cleanliness then again, most dogs are pretty clean. If you take them running through the mud then you throw them in the sea or something afterwards. Roxy was clean enough that I would let her sleep with me.

I love the loyalty and the unconditional love you get from dogs. Not so much with cats.... who seem to hiss and swipe at me. Mars was a pretty cool animal though, I'll give you that.

I think that is what it comes down to "loyalty and the unconditional love" go's both ways, what you give they give back  .... Some people should not even own animals.

Cheers mate. Heading out tomorrow, Alpha Mike Foxtrot. One more trip with my current machine which is a Vietnam veteran, complete with combat damage (cheers Zac for the research) and then onto a bog standard HS model probably.
