Trying out Active Sky 2016

Postby toprob » Sat Jul 09, 2016 6:10 pm

Spent most of my birthday credit at Simmarket on AS2016, although not enough left over for the companion Cloud Art. The is my second flight today, just sightseeing around Auckland. Very nice weather, I must say! Hard to pin it down, but it seems to add another dimension to the depiction. I use Rex Soft Clouds here, but I will have a go with ASCA when I can afford it.

Some thoughts on the pricing -- sure, it's a popular and well-liked product, and I can understand a bit of a price hike, but P3D more expensive? That doesn't really make sense, here or with A2A. It seems completely arbitrary. Luckily I got it cheaper as an upgrade from ASN.

So many whether options, I have REX/Active sky , don't have the extras .... funny looking at the simple default FSX .. CRIPES ! .. If you are spending time organizing flight and levels , the levels and navigation , got to a stage where I'm looking at the ground rather the cloud .

I think wonder how many still use the 'SHADE' addon .. I'm mixing and matching different .. really it also depends on a FS homes PC.

Wow to be honest I didn't really care for what Hifi beta testers were showing compared to the REX Force line coming soon. But your shots are really great! So is it default clouds with soft clouds?

Maybe Cloud art is the problem. I never really liked Hifi cloud textures compared to Rex's.

I'll give the trial a go seeing as Rex will still be some months away.

I'm with Nick - on the current Superbeast, clouds and forests are a disaster, frame-rate wise. If REX Weather Force comes up to snuff, I would get a new flying machine - that's if anyone is still making desktop towers.

Just bought the same thing as well, and am using Soft Clouds too. Which specific set are you using?

Again still re-installing FSX , surprising what the bare basics really look like, 'ME' I'm currently studying ground texture and funny had one over at SOH doing his pooh due to land-class abnormalities , it was ORBX tho so I sincerlery understand the problem .. Nice thing tho I have the option to re-see what weather programs have to offer.

Good question, not too sure -- I actually fired up REX 4 yesterday for the first time in a long time, and tried some different texture sets, but when I went back to Soft Clouds I realised that it didn't remember my settings. So the answer is 'some random set....'

I think if one has a weather program and specific New Zealand , real is still limited due the stations with the data.

I'm annoyed how Rex 4 removed the water color option. I've noticed NZ water seems to be greener than what we have in the sim. At least in low depth places

Al gee bloom, it is weird how some people or company's approach some well know features around New Zealand , I t would be interesting to meet or chat to a developer rather one deciding that is it ... tho thinking about it , the program dose have its parameters SO .. I guess we will see screens and let us know.
