Back from Wellington

Postby toprob » Fri Jul 22, 2016 3:33 pm

I've just got back from a week staying with my daughter in Karori, very nice time, I was sad to have to leave this morning. This wasn't a working trip, but I did manage to get a few more bits and pieces for a Real NZ city. No time at all at the airport, however.
My daughter thinks I have an obsession with trees, just because I spent a lot of my time looking for the ideal Ngaio tree to build some autogen... I haven't yet looked at my photos, but hopefully I do have at least one good ngaio!
Met up with Paul (cooldad) for coffee on the waterfront, great way to pass the time, cheers, Paul!
Had a look at the Galipoli exhibit at Te Papa, quite heavy-going really, I think people like me really need a bit of a cheery break half-way through -- they certainly do a good job of showing the death, danger, dysentery, flies, etc.

Trees .. clouds , without them Flightsim would not look as great without them .. still that old FS2000 Hahn scenery that directed me there.

That is something I like to get up and see.

Glad you had a good time, weather wasn't too bad I hope...

Did you get a look at the new extension that opened at the airport? Or were you in the big jafa planes? :D

I was just up the road from you in Ngaio. I went to the National War Museum this time instead of Te Papa - they also have an outstanding Gallipoli exhibit but you do have to pay cash to view their one. Well worth it in my opinion. Both exhibits show similar things but also complement each other with different displays and emphases.

It's a pity we didn't coordinate things to arrange a meet up there.

Great to catch up Robin. Hope you got the photos you wanted! You left Wellington just in time, it's turning rather ugly up here now.

Would have been nice to meet up with a few others as well.

Cheers, Paul, I tried a real-weather flight today, and it wasn't pretty... However I do love how this sort of weather is depicted using AS16, I just have to keep my copter under the very low ceiling.

Greg -- I did post last week in the members only if anyone was wanting to meet up, but it was pretty low-key -- I have a thing against publicising any time away, after being burgled once before:) I assume that only NZFF members are trustworthy!

I know that Naki was there as well all week, we must have just missed each other at Te Papa on Wednesday, but I knew he had his family with him, so was probably already committed 110% time-wise...

Fair enough, somehow missed your announcement and i guess it's always possible to visit locally rather then making a special trip to Wellington to do it!!
