Paper folding a Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle.

Aimed at Ian the artist ... Ive just received from china some "guns" ... well card ones anyway.
The first one to arrive was a Barrett 1.1 scale ..... in flat pack , it has to be cut , folded , and glued .
The detail on the printing is amazing , and once completed , you would be hard pushed to tell it wasn't real .
Ian , have you ever done this stuff before ? Ive made a few skyscrapers (models) in a similar way , but nothing like this.

Im not sure what i will do with it , or where I'll put it ... just keen to see if works out ( I got 2 just in case )

From memory the others (yet to arrive ) are an Uzi long mag , an M-60 , all 1.1 scale . There are some more but i cant remember without going to the website. (Aliexpress)

I know what these (real ones) are designed to do , but its the engineering that appeals to me , not the end result of that work. Although ... in some cases a .50cal round could solve a few problems.
But anyway , Im talking about a paper replica ... nothing more .

It would be a great photo build project ! .. a lesson in cardboard model build .. step by step and why one decides and see why it should be modified.

Ok .... If your keen I'll be over on saturday (if theres no snow) I think you could really add to this .
The paper (card) its printed on is a little thin i think , but you have a look and see what you think.
If it works out , you can display it at your place .... but we are talking 1.1 scale , and a Barrett isn't small.... so , maybe .... we can turn my dear old mums garage into a studio / gun safe.

Mind is already going wide with ideas , I think on first inspection, I think believe you could have a perfectly cure cardboard model .. Space Shuttle weathered wind and rain to Wanaka on the roof top a van on four occasion's .. Its only a Sniper Rifle .. .... I will skill it out and recommend

Barrett is quite an interesting rifle especially if someone tries to fire one with out the muzzle brake lol. Never heard of scale cardboard replicas aside model aircraft.

I have seen ocean liners and warships, trains trucks and cars , course Marty's collection of architectural buildings but cardboard .5 , that is going to have to have a photo history build in the detail Marty is talking about.

This thing is 140cm long when complete .... 59 inches.

I did wonder how it would fell be on the receiving end .... they were developed this to shoot though walls, concrete blocks ... cardboard tho you would have to charge in with a Sabre Saw built into it

This is just a few sheets for the M82A1, I think I'll study the UZI first , least with the Barrett, do it bit by bit , even has a card .50(12.7in) round one to one scale so another part to get started on.

I'm currently playing Arma3 ACE3 with several other mods and the M82 is one of the weapons I've used with it, it is an interesting weapon with a lot of history. The latest heavy caliber sniper rifles can have computers that you can use with them that calculate the windage, rotation of the earth lead etc to hit a tgt at extreme ranges and some of the mods in A3 ACE3 feature some of these capabilities are modeled if you use the Marksman dlc. It sort of adds a lot to an FPS if it features the marksmanship principles lol and the annoying problem of some situations having a bipod but being a surface with so much depression you cannot use it.

So if you want to find out what it is like to use such weapons and harm nothing it might be an idea to try out Arma3 with the Marksmans DLC plus ACE 3.

Its pretty destructive as .50 is a freckin big bullet, .50s are quite distinctive and loud(especially machine guns).

Near the size but slightly larger was the early 'Iver Johnson 500' , they do make a mess, you can see why they were the standard gun for from everything from B-17 to the P-51 to F-86 .... but a sniper rifle, no place to hide with of them bad boys and get these skilled US troops Ooo Boy !

I have seen live firing of the Browning .5 , even the flash and kick was impressive and to see tracer was unique and its strike power into a concrete building, I wasn't aloud to see the or check the damage, the target tho was 4 to 500 meters away and the ground, it just boiled around it . amazing weapon.

Im going to practice on a Japanese carp (koi) or nishikigo as they are called in Japan , only about 25 folds . If that works , I'll try a water lily (3 Pages and 20 odd folds) .... and then the M-60

Marty, I'll still go in with a photo build and my recommends, the strengthening, I read one the things required in build is colour pencil , I would change that with water base paint, the old days we had spray mat varnish, that would cure the the light card making it stronger again keeping the original card print.
