The scary part was even thinking to turn the prop .. in the late 1940's were ex mil aircraft were cheap, plenty of would be pilots .. there was a rash of peoples getting killed , not just prop swinging but peoples walking into run engines, It was the USAF that when it was formed decided a set of stencil and markings and warning signs on aircraft , today you don't see them so much , the RED line with danger arrows , got to a stage were the aircraft were covered in all sort of stencils ... one would think , prop swinging is not a practice to take up ... if ya can't start it , FIX IT !

One thing and today is not so common now, was the old Bell model 47 .. always lower your head and come in sideways .. when the RNZAF operated the Huey , you notice how the crew walk wide of the disk and enter side on .. good safety practice , in war its different , use your brain case and bend and in and under or wait till the disk is flat.

Yes, pure slapstick, but a very lucky escape...

One aircraft I really hated prop swinging was the C206 or C207...those 3 bladed props and a powerful engine that was tricky enough to start at times via the normal method.

...resulting in a broken leg...(backfire!)...!.... ...!

Paul do what I did , kick start my CB350 years back .. was ... old and classic , one kick .. two Kicks .. almost Three Kicks , bloody spark plug shot out the cylinder head and thru the roof of the garage ... I did not tell another Rob about this ... but boy !

That's a bigger donk than the one Paul's little bike. I would be down the camping and fishing shop, getting one of those chain-mail gloves to save fingers from over-enthusiastic filleting
