Postby Kiwia1spad » Tue Oct 25, 2016 11:16 am

Im currently downloading the Marlborough X scenery from flightsim.com in the full pack and wow the server there is slow! I am on gigabit fibre here in Dunedin, and its not even halfway through after 12 hours!
Is there another faster server i can use to download it/

I not entirely sure what version of the package I have here after the PC meltdown and funky chicken, that is a problem with flightsim.com is its upload and download speeds but is reliable with keeping files , hence I always use Nel's website, maybe Doug could package a link to you.

I am so lucky to have a good connection link and so close to the hub, Surprised, I thought Dunners got a good high speed connection, they raved about it a whiles back , that is bloody disappointing.

I see that Flightsim.com offers a paid download subscription, which is probably the only way you are going to get these huge files -- has anyone tried it?

There really is no easy way to serve huge freeware files, so it kind of makes sense that you'd be better-off paying. I'm sure it's got nothing to do with what type of connection the end-user has, they have to serve a lot of downloads at once, so it all comes out of the same limited pipes...

I did have it in the early days, first two year was freely given, then payed the next two, back then it was helpful but today the connection here is superb except its now Vodaphone , as useless as they are it is still a great connection ... fact is if your outside a good link , again ..I'M lucky to have the major hub just down the road.

The fact that they offer a fast paid service assumes that they throttle everything else, so as I said, it doesn't matter what sort of connection you have, it won't make it come out of Flightsim.com any faster.

That is the way it has always been , biggest thing , you don't lose historical files that people ask for, some reason AVSIM dose have a habit of loosing everything (get hacked) , basically download managers ... are they still used ? .. would be required , If I really wanted a file I hook into it and find the solution to D/load it , strangely I never had an issue with large files , come freeware or payware , I think it comes down making sure your prepared to spend a little time and wait for it .
