I'd be scared to think off the price , the engineering is bloody impressive , sure they have the castings , even the prop would not be cheap simply to prove they got it running is a goal on its own.

I can imagine the complication of the camshaft driving all those overhead valves!

I wonder what speed the engine reached?

That bloody propeller scares me!.....I would put a wire screen around it, to prevent getting "chipped".... ....!

...an archaic design.... ....

Funny how the sound really gets to people, best sounding bike was the 900 with a four in one exhaust , the 1100 sound mild by compare ... , never got use to to the POMP POMP POMP POMP POMP of the HD .. course also the riding position .. If you were going to ride its the lean into the corner before the bike is there !

I love engines of all types....

...but I find the 45 degree Harley engines to be unique, in that both cylinders are in line with each other, due to the fact that one of the con-rods is forked, and the other con-rod lies in between the forks on a single crankpin, (not many Harley owners know that fact when I point it out to them!), whereas the other manufacturers, (Rice-burners, etc), off-set the cylinders, with both con-rods placed side-by-side on the common crankpin!

I suspect that the unique; "Harley sound" has a lot to do with the cylinder placement, and the valve and ignition timing!

I just wish that my cruiser twin sounded like it.... ....!
