The Army convoy was halted due the weather and danger of other possible slips.

I think one off the biggest things, the neighbours down the back come rushing in to find out the details, in a way its good I can explain were and dot the location and sorta show how far out it is .. you still feel it .. with you Marty, last thing we want is it to arrive back to the city of Christchurch.

I had thoughts of flying into CH for Omaka and getting the train to Blenheim (I 'collect' trains like that) and picking up a rental car there but by the look of things I won't even be driving to get there :(

Been looking at other possibilities, and found on the Omaka 2017 site, under News, that Air Chathams will be flying a DC3 from WN to OM - but the days/dates are the 2015 ones, so it looks like a copy/paste error. Does anyone know, or know anyone who can find out, the correct info?
Possibilities are - in to NZAA, visit MOTAT, make a day trip to Omaka, or in to NZWN, see Te Papa, and a day trip to Omaka. Plan A was arrive at CH or DN, get a car there and drop it off at CH.

After looking at the results and from the history of Christchurch Quakes , this will put a real damper for the next Easter, .. for the ones who have pre payed 'Gold Pass' packages, the travel and the bookings across the region are really going to be hit , .... It would not have been so bad six months back but now .. .... and one thought what happens when another big one happens when the crowds are there ? ... Ooooohps!

I had a 3-day Gold pass for Wanaka, but I don't think it was worth it - "includes lunch" turned out to mean one lunch only, on whichever of the three days you chose to have lunch, and the tucker wasn't great value anyway. I did get a discount on the DVD, which was good.

I hope all of you are okay, and that there's not too much damage that affects you all.

It's been a very hectic, but rewarding couple of weeks since the quake, and the last of us blue boys are starting to come back up.

I'll give you some intersting stats in the Members Only area later tonight, have to drive home.

Biggest thing Paul , If you send in work crews along that piece of road you going really have to think, what happens if it go's off again, quite strange, it looked like solid rock face .. but really its more like icing on a sponge cake.

Hello Ian.... :wink2: ....

You Blokes and Blokesses are certainly having a rough-old time of it down-under...!

I'm watching it daily with great interest on our BBC, etc, news.

What a mess!... :o ....!

Its pretty impressive to see what looks like, appears a solid rock face to mush, for the fixers .. you have that 'IS THAT GOING TO GO' in the back of your mind, and to know how stable it is .

Solid material turns to "liquid" in the event of earthquakes, volcano eruptions, landslides, etc!

Scary stuff!

One thing Richard my brother pointed out , lucky it was midnight .. he uses that road very regular to his fishing and diving spot just South of Kaikoura , during most parts of the day you have streams of traffic , from tour bus's , camper vans, the cargo trucks then cars, along there not much passing space so they snake thru the region .
