Controllers....

Postby toprob » Tue Dec 27, 2016 11:48 am

I mentioned that I wrecked my joystick shifting it down south, the wires had become quite frayed over the 15 years that I've had it, so it was bound to go at some stage.
Although I have a nice throttle/yoke, I use the joystick for scenery placement etc, as the yoke isn't ideal for slewing around, so I've just ordered a cheapo replacement from Mighty Ape.
Some nice deals there if anyone is interested, such as this:

Saitek X52 $50 off down to $149 until tomorrow;

This is what I ordered --Thrustmaster Flight Stick X 25% off till tomorrow.
Disclaimer: as always with my Mighty Ape links, there's a referral link embedded.

One thing I like about Mighty Ape, I normally get an email saying my package has been delivered, so I check the front door and there it is....

I was in a hurry to fly, as I've missed it, but first had to reassign some things -- forgot to reassign the brakes, so nearly came to a fiery end at the fuel pumps when I pressed the brake and it tried to raise my gear.

The Thrustmaster certainly feels good and solid, I was always spoilt a bit by the MS stick (a gift from MS a long long time ago), so it's nice to get something which is similar enough to feel comfortable. It looks weird, though, they have gone with a variety of button designs, where just about every button is unique, well not quite, but it seems that way.

:P The ole we tricked with were to place the buttons , one other primary reason I moved away from Joysticks is the handles are never made for left handed people, you gotta see the confusion that happens here with my mice

Yeah, I'm left-handed, and almost never use anything right-handed, except the joystick. It kind of makes sense for scenery work, stick in right hand and mouse in the left.
When I lived in Auckland, there was a left-handed shop in Newmarket, I think, I loved that shop but I bet it isn't there any more.

They certainly did their best to fix me, with a fairly common outcome back then -- I stammered into adulthood, only really overcoming it when I got to my late 20s.

Duh! I mentioned that I needed to remap a lot of things to get the joystick working in Prepar3d, but it turns out that I hadn't read the manual... There's a switch on the back, changing from PS3 to PC did the trick. Had to put on my reading glasses to find it though.
This is why I always tell customers to RTFM! otherwise you miss the good bits.

That is something I never would have thought of, PS3 I guess one you look for these days , only time I ever operate a PS was in Malaysia in 1999 and that was with toggle switch's and a car racing game , no good at that.

FWIW - just in case you're still looking for a joystick (i am a CH Products junkie) - just landed a CH Products Fighterstick USB from the states (through Digi-Key) for $214 kiwi - took about 5 days via fedex, easily tracked to give me "comfort" - oh so much less painful than ebay - :xmas:

Nice Rob, good price. I've got one of the Logitech Extreme 3D jobs and it hasnt missed a beat for at least 5 years I reckn, maybe longer.
Re the HOTAS stuff, I too would LOVE one of those new Warthog units, if just to get the seperate engine controls
