There is nothing more annoying....

Postby Fozzer » Wed Mar 01, 2017 10:11 am

...when your/my E-Mail Server decides to close the service down!

After 20+ years of using my old "Freeserve" address via "Orange", "EE" has decided to close it down after taking it over from "Wannado" a few years ago.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeserve

Having selected "G-Mail" for my alternative E-Mail Server, I am now left with advising all my zillions of contacts of my new E-Mail address....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmail

...which is bl**dy annoying for me, and confusing for them!

My old Orange E-Mail Server was a delight to use, with a simple layout, and everything labelled, and lots of options for various displays, attachments, etc.

This G-Mail malarkey at the moment is giving me a headache trying to figure it all about, and I'm not a Happy Bunny!

When things are working correctly, I like them to be left alone!.... ...!

Typical example.... I'm now having to advise NZFF, Sim V, Friends and Family, etc, of my new E-Mail address.....

...as well as everyone else all around Planet Earth!

Paul....Grumble, grumble.... ....!

I've gone through the same thing to be sure I have the very same name and address, so it is fingers crossed on the next month billing , new modem put in this morning and apparently on better and cheaper deal.
To change you name and address , that would be a pain in the arse !

Paul -
1 - put all your contacts into a gmail group address list called 'Freeserve', or whatever you like
2 - in gmail create a new mail addressed to yourself, with the info about the change, with blind copies (Bcc) to the 'Freeserve' list.
3 - Send the email. You will get your own message, to show it worked, and the individuals in the BCC will get their copies but will not see who else got one.

You can expect quite a few delivery failures, due to out-of-date contact addresses.

With me it has been a , ever since Vodafone change over, they did not like it when I said someone is stealing money's , they try and talk down to you , obviously this is rampart, when I mentioned it is a automatic debit never used over the limit , I won't the only one on this boat , .... funny they have no answer to the increased billings and accounts ... yet they dictate !

True, Paul - for those things you will need to login to your account at those suppliers (use your old email addy) and edit your details to update as required. Some of them might pick up the bulk email you sent to all your friends, but there's no guarantee businesses etc will know how or even be able to change things - it would have to be done using the customer's login/PW and generally they can't read your PW.
