They are saying 'once in 50 years', but I hope that's just media-speak -- 50 years ago was the Wahine storm, I can still remember that.
I can also remember 1980ish, in Tauranga for Easter, visiting my girlfriend on my motorbike, and being 'stranded at the Strand' with the waves whipping across the road. Honestly, I'm getting too old for rubbish weather, might be time to head somewhere more settled...

Little different to the next 24 hrs.

I remember being on the Railways Cook Strait Ferry, Aramoana 1969, the ship saluted the sunken Wahine .. very calm sunny March morning.

In my life time I have had the hottest day on record, the strongest winds across Canterbury that flattened everything almost , the heavest snow , the earthquakes only thing missing is a Volcano :D

Well sitting here singing Easter Carols and waiting for Easter Bunny to come thru the cat door .... I kept telling myself Christmas and Easter, there was no Jolly fat man in a Red Suit or a Easter bunny and with this weather and scientific experiment proves it.
3.10 AM it rained Heavy no wind
3.55 AM , settled down and just a continuous rain.
6.00 AM , still the rain but heavy and no wind.
6.12 AM , the COOK is just off Cheviot so its a little late.

Talking about high winds.... ....

I remember, many years ago, 1960's, when all the houses on our estate were all Council Houses, with coal fires, and chimney stacks....

...and all the houses had TV aerials attached to the chimney stacks by their tennants....>>>

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Telev ... 66&bih=837

Then, one day, there was A VERY BIG WIND, which blew all the chimneys down, through the roofs, into the bedrooms below!

It cost the Council so much money to replace them, and repair the damage, that it then became an offence to attach an aerial (Radio/TV) to the chimney!

Being a cheap-skate, I built my TV aerial up inside my attic, (to save me climbing up my sloping roof, and falling off), so my chimney was safe from the windy blast!

High winds can be very scary!

Paul....Wind in the Willows.... :D ...!
