X plane 11

Downloaded the free demo this morning . Looks better than the last version I had a peek at.
I'm assuming the demo is a "derated" version of the new upgrade .
Yet another platform to explore ... maybe.

Still trying to get some screen shots , when I do , I will post them.

Yes ... the p3d is really on the move.
I wonder if Boeing has considered branching out into the virtual world ... they don't seem to have a problem with developers building their aircraft for the various sim platforms.

I would probably think they will give it a miss, Wonder what the 'Wright Bros' would thought with what we have today ... old Orville Wright watching WWII , that would have been interesting to hear his thoughts .. after all the first aircraft armed was a Wright Flyer.

Indeed .... anyway, it seems I cant screenshot in the demo mode,.... well I can ... but it just shows the splash screen.
Will sleep on it, and decide if it's worth buying ... but I doubt it.

I'm in the same position, at the moment $80 is a lot of money for me. At some stage I need to figure out whether I can make X-plane scenery I could be proud of, but I may have to wait until I have a steadier income.
(I can get screenshots using the PostImage desktop tool, but it takes some pre-planning -- for instance, if I forget to pause the sim, it keeps flying in the background! Gimme a 'v' key any day.)

"Gimme a 'v' key any day.)" yes indeed Rob.
I'm multi-platform at the moment ...DCS , P3D , IL2 , XPLANE , FS9 and War thunder , my monitor is covered with sticky notes with the key stokes for all that stuff

I downloaded the demo and have tried it a few times

Great graphics, really nice atmospheric visual, haze and clouds etc. properly contoured runways following the terrain is a nice feature that adds to the realism and it has a great interface for joysticks, yokes, throttles and pedals

But............

I rely on FUSIPC to tailor my yokes, sticks and throttles to individual aircraft types so I can have a joystick for sick controlled planes and helicopters, a yoke for others, 2 throttles for twins, 4 throttles for 4 engined planes with detent's for reverse and I don't want to have to dive into the configurations setting every time I want to fly something different, so big drawback there

Plus

When I dialed in some weather to try an IFR approach down to minimums to guage what that was like it dropped down to 8fps!!!!!!

So no I'm just gonna stick with good old FSX for a while

Hi Cooch - have you tried the plugin XPUIPC?

It's a free plugin that emulates FUSIPC. You can find v2.0.0.0 here -> www.tosi-online.de/XPUIPC/XPUIPC.html

However, v2.0.4.8 is apparently out, and is working in XP11. There's an active discussion forum on www.x-plane.org (http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/fo ... e/&page=19) that has a direct link to the plugin's author. I'm sure he can help if you drop him a line...

As far as your frame rates go, what's your system build? I've just upgraded to XP11 after building a fantastic PC from scratch (i7 4790K/16GB/GTX1070/multiple SSDs) and am churning out @85-100fps under normal loads, and @45fps with virtually everything maxx'ed out.

Other ways to get back some fps are to just reduce your visual settings slightly.

- Water reflections still look great on the LOW setting, and shadows can be reduced to MEDIUM or LOW as well.

- Weather can always be an issue (I currently use X-Aviation's SkyMaxx v3, but am considering XEnviro over the newly-released SkyMaxx v4. It's a bit pricey, but incredibly realistic and immersive - and it has the added benefit of not seriously hitting your frame rates). So with that in mind, reduce the generic clouds to @ 15% as a start point (they chew up frames faster than you can say - er - "chew up frames"...).

- Also, turn vehicle traffic down to "Kansas Residential" or even "Siberian Winter" to give some processor power back to flying your plane.

- And another way to speed things up would be to turn off any additional X-Plane generated aircraft flying around the sim, as the re-draws for other planes can be a real hit. I use the excellent "World Traffic" plugin, found at www.classicjetsims.com (an upgraded version 3 will be released imminently). This add-on integrates flight plans into your environment, and uses fully animated .obj's as other aircraft, giving no discernible frame drop and adding a huge realistic element.

Anyway - I hope this helps. I've only had XP11 for just under a week, and I can already say that it's poles apart from XP10. The highly refined and easy-to-navigate interface is so much better than the clunky v10, and the graphics are truly spectacular. Now, I'm pondering as to whether to go 4K or VR...

Let me know how you get on! :)

Cheers,

Aaron.

After some scenery development experiments, I did say that I'd buy X-plane if I managed a couple of subscription sales over the last week, but really I meant four... or five.... just to cover next months tax instalment as well. Anyway, I've just loaded up Steam, and looked at the X-plane page (just to remind myself of the price -- still $79.99) and Steam kindly popped a window open asking if I really meant to be there, as it isn't the sort of thing I'm interested in! Their AI is no doubt trying to protect me from a rash purchase, kind of funny really... It did say, though, that if I bought it, Steam would adjust it's recommendations, very kind of it.
I'm not really ready for an AI world, and I guess that AI isn't really ready for me.

I was just looking at Xplane 11 last night and was thinking if it was worth buying as a second sim with P3d. Any thoughts

Most definitely worth it. There's nothing wrong with variety ... all the sims have their good and bad points .
I looked at Xplane a few versions ago , and thought is was over complicated, awful interface .... but this one (11) is pretty good, and will get better.

Give it a whirl :wink2:

Yeah ... it was a real shock, but I'm sure he's out there doing the biz :)
Let me know what you think about Xplane ...I've decided to upgrade from the demo ... but I'm hooked on this war thunder thing at the moment ...too many toys B-)

Yes it was certainly a shock, I thought he was away just because most of the time he was up there posting. It wont be just at this moment I certainly let you know, I am at the moment looking for NZ scenery and AI traffic for the like I have in P3D. Some of P3D aircraft were just default FSX the king air and Extra were.
