War thunder

Postby Splitpin » Fri Apr 14, 2017 7:24 pm

Yet another sim I'm into, as if DCS , IL2 , P3D aren't enough.
This one (War thunder) is a little different, you have to progress through various stages before you fly the real good stuff.
So far (on the U.S side) I have made it to the Hawk and Buffalo stage ... not sure if I have the energy to try anymore.
The scenery is really amazing, aircraft models the same.
I have only made the grade, in the UK as far as the Hawker Nimrod ... some old type of Heinkel in Germany, and similar in Russia and Japan. (Screens later)
Very complex indeed.

But in the mean time ........

The old Brewster Buff would be an interest one .. I'll give the ole Peashooter a miss , mind you in its day it was well ahead of its time and used in China during the 1930's and against Japan.

What's amazing about that sim, is the lighting engine. It self reflects and such. Called Physical Based Rendering (PBR) I hope P3D will have a similar thing in V4. You can see the yellow wing refelecting in the fuselage. Amazing. It also does specular dynamically based on conditions and lighting around....

Whoar... those are some busy textures.

Marty, you do get around!
Confirms my suspicion that MS and derivative sims are kaput, the world has moved on.

Very very nice, more please.

Cracking shots Marty,

Also good to see someone else venturing into War Thunder, as for all the moaning on various forums about the aircraft/tanks/ships* it has proven that it can more than hold its own.

Have to admit I tend to spend a fair bit of time flying around in the Wimpy (wellington), and destroying the bases with the 4000lb "cookie" in 3 hits, that and dogfighting in the Blenheim.

Can't wait to unlock the Lancaster/Mosquito though as I mainly seem to fly from the British Teir.

Thanks Marty,

Hopefully I'll try and do some more small video clips either a 1920x1080 or 1600x900 in the future, Just a shame they don't have a view where you can be flying and in a small window be able to take control of the bombers guns etc.

Do you use this via Steam or straight through the client?

Marty, you've inspired me to install this and give it a try. Great fun, but I didn't realise that strafing ground targets was so difficult to firstly find the target and secondly to hit them. I guess I will improve though . . .

It's good to have a shooting game for those (frequent) times when I need to release a bit of tension

It makes a nice change Greg ... Im still picking my way through it .
Must take months to get to the top tier aircraft ... wish there was a way to activate the whole lot at once , but i guess that would defeat the purpose .
