Quite correct - but Marty is referring to a little bit of "local" NZFF history ...

... my parents were Polish, but Marty has Russian blood in him (though he appears to write in Polish better than I can )! So our "war" also goes back a long way here on NZFF - but it only involves insulting each other in the friendliest manner. He has a great sense of humour (for a Rooshian ) and this "war" has probably bored (or simply confused) everyone here for *years*. It's all fun, though, and isn't likely to end - unless people find it offensive, in which case we'll probably both accuse them of "sense of humour" failures and carry on anyway!

A bit of Polish History a few miles from me, in the village of Mancel Lacy, in Herefordshire.

A bit of Polish History a few miles from me, in the village of Mancel Lacy, in Herefordshire.

I well remember the camp in its heyday in the late 1940's.

I can still ride my Motorcycle through its grounds, although its buildings are no longer there, traces of the camp can be seen on Google Street Maps.

My parents were placed in a camp at Daglingworth (Glos), but many of my later friends spent their early years at another camp at [RAF] Fairford. We moved up to Leeds (yuk!!) later, but spent a few summers at grand-dad's camp at Ludford Magna (nr. Market Rasen, Lincoln).

As these camps were usually on (or near) RAF bases, many of our childhood days were spent exploring these magical places. Real "Boy's Own" stuff!! We must have been poor as church mice, but I had the happiest of childhoods.

Much later, I moved back to Gloucestershire - only a few miles from where the old camp was. Again, I have only the fondest memories of it. I wonder what the old English for "Mancel" meant - as there was a village near me called Frampton Mansell - and "Mansell" is a fairly common surname.

Your bike ... isn't what I expected! I thought I'd be hearing the gentle phut-phut of a Vincent or some BSA variant. Mind you - at least Hondas *go*. Most of the BSAs I ever saw were by the side of the road (particularly when it was raining!). A bit like the old Minis - with distributors just behind the radiator grille (stupid or what?).

I've been to Symonds Yat and Hay a few times, but only braved Coleford and Cinderford once (I was lucky to escape ). Friends had a sheep farm in Hereford that we used to stay with, but I forget where it was now. All beautifully lush and green. Gloucestershire was by far the most beautiful county for me - but I must say I think Hereford came pretty close - surprisingly unpopulated and private.
