Ok, another losing battle with technology this week, and I can now see the benefits of retirement...
I've been putting together a Chch beta (not a 'proper' beta yet, so this isn't for those of you who normally do my testing) so I started last week with the VLC libraries, which needed a quick tweak for Prepar3d v4. This week I was hoping to get straight into the chch installer, but nothing but problems so far. Who knew that my normal installer system couldn't cope with files bigger than 2GB? Maybe everyone knows this, but it came as a surprise to me. Spent Monday finding a workaround, Tuesday was spent figuring out why Monday's solution didn't work for me, and finally today everything should be working as expected...
Except not. My installers have become quite unwieldy now, as they are expected to do more and more, so I know I'll get bugs galore. If I was educated properly, I would have gone into archeology, or biology, or astronomy, but never coding! My coding skill level is 'usually gets there in the end'. I have code which I have no idea what it does. Do I assume that I once knew what I was doing, and just run with it, or take it apart and start over?
Anyway, that's my rant for the week.
I have been hoping to test the whole concept of a 'modern' Prepar3d V4 installer on something simpler, the promised Prepar3d version of Hokitika. This will probably be a weekend job, though.
