New Zealand photoscenery using FSEarthtiles

Postby Kelvinr » Sun Sep 30, 2018 7:17 pm

Hi all,

I'm back but I haven't been far.

I have been working on New Zealand using 1 meter res aerial imagery. because it is from FSearthtiles it won't be sold, but free to all who want it and have the disk space.

It will be water masked as well with rivers, lakes, ponds, sea coastlines, and estuaries blended with the photo image. I have mastered the process of converting shapefiles to Raster images based on available vector data and what would probably take months, or years to do the entire country water and blend masks now takes me about 20 minutes per grid.

a couple of alpha shots included as I have yet to correct the colour of the images.

I've split this off from the Supercity topic, as it doesn't really relate.
Looking good, Kelvin. I'm probably a bit behind the times, but I wasn't aware that any of the FSEarthtiles sources were distributable. I'd certainly recommend LINZ as a source, simply because most of it is licensed for distribution, and even sale.

This isn't a bad idea. I do have 50cm.Auckland area but might look into the entire country. With the help of a colleague I have a powerful little program that does the raster conversion as well as automated resample output for multiple files so it's pretty much a couple of clicks and the rest is up to the pc.

An example of my program that processes shapefiles to get water and blend masks. This area took about 10 minutes to create...

Have you ever struck the "Cannot start Something is wrong with working directory" problem?
I was able to produce a fair bit of scenery for a month or so but now all has come to a shuddering halt....

Hi Jeff,

The app looks for the root folder and all the other folders specified in the appsettings.json file.

all the folders in the appsettings file must exist as well as be in the location it specifies otherwise geoimageprocessor will throw an error about a missing or invalid folder path.

It would be good to see your appsettings config and folders so I can better determine how I can be of more help.

Cheers,
Kelvin

The problem is no files are created. I tried to use the same files/settings as another PC I was using which later had the same issues but no luck. It seems to work briefly for small files after a month or so and then goes back to the same old message.
I thought it had something to do with the source website at Virtual earth blocking the program, however if you are not having the same issue that cannot be the reason.
So far I have covered Aussie, part of Indonesia and a few European countries at 8m resolution summer only (other seasons and 4m or less res chewed up too much space) and a few airports/cities at 2-4 M.
I probably should not be too upset as I am running out of hard drive space.

Hi Kelvin
This is the version of FSET I am using which sets out the files which do not appear.
http://www.f-bmpl.com/index.php/faites- ... htiles-1-3
(I used Lien de secours).

With work files amended as below
https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21A ... 79&o=OneUp

It does not appear to be the same as you are using?

Cheers

Hi Jeff

I have been working on my new version of my Geoimage processor and its close to being released, it is far more advanced than the first version which only outputs a mask file but my new version processes automatically from the start to the finish creating the bgl scenery at the end.

I have to get documentation done but once that's completed I'll release it and you should find it more hassle free as it has much better error handling. So I won't do anything more with your issue just now.

Maybe you could do some beta testing and give me some feedback?

Hi Kelvin
No problem beta testing however I am an oldish bloke (60's) so it will need to be simple.
I was going to get into masks on FSET but decided to do "rough and ready" first before undertaking the tough bit.
Please let me know when you are ready
Thanks

No worries, it should only be as simple as dropping source files into a folder but would be good to get some feedback as it's a completely automated process but there are settings which I need to document. However, you can leave everything defaulted in the config file and just run the program.

I'm tidying up a couple of bugs but when it's ready enough I'll flick you a link and we can correspond via pm if you have questions for the time being.
