Where have I been

Postby Splitpin » Sat Jan 12, 2019 8:02 pm

I've just discovered NetFlix ...I know, don't go there.
$18.00 a month ...I'm hooked.
I've even taken on a millennial condition ...."binge viewing"
I've spent the last few days watching back to back episodes of the "blacklist" and "bad blood" ....and am doing so while I post this :ph43r:

Can't really criticise. For Chrissie, darling daughter gave me a Spotify subscription and a JBL Flip3 to listen with. It is very good. Our ABC Classic FM morphed into an imitation of Bogan City Radio and was no longer worth listening to. Nikki's present lets me listen to ABC Classic playlists without the Bogan City Radio overlay.

Yes, Netflix is well-worth the money. For the price of a movie ticket per month, it is one of my few vices. Currently binging on The Protector, a Netflix original made in Turkey. Not really my sort of TV show, but the scenery is amazing -- Istanbul is quite something. And the women all have great hair.
Some hidden gems, over the new year I watched the film 'Roma', which would have to be the highlight of my year. I also love European TV drama, like 'Dark', I'm waiting on season 2...
Netflix just works, unlike some of the other services. Sometimes I can't find anything to watch for a month, though, then everything comes at once. I did try Amazon, which has some good stuff, but not quite up to Netflix, and far too much real rubbish -- they seem to buy movies in bulk, mainly made in someone's garage. Netflix makes a lot of their own stuff, and they aim for quality rather than quantity.
Great to see The Blacklist back, that's quality TV.

That's all very well, but I can't get the original 'On The Beach' or 'A Night to Remember" at a sensible price. :(

Netflix is very good but the business model is flawed and they are hemorrhaging cash.
They are expected to have a negative cashflow of some N$4.5 billion this year.
There will be some drastic changes ahead unfortunately.
They have now head hunted the CEO of Activision to see if they can turn their fortunes around.
A classic case of a business that had huge start up seed capital but a business model, that although popular with the consumer (like Uber), just doesn't make economic sense.. It will probably eventually work out but not not in it's current form or for $18 a month with multiple accounts.
