P3Dv5+photoscenery

This post is really in response to Adam's comments on the limitations of Prepar3d v5. All his points are valid, and it certainly shows up how much we rely on addons like PTA to perk up our sims. But there are a few positives with v5, for me it does allow a more natural appearance, especially with photoscenery. These shots all suffer from one or more of the limitations listed by Adam, but if you accept it as a cloudy day, and ignore the fact that the ground is unlit by any sun at all, this flight was one of the more 'natural' realistic flights I've had for a long time in Prepar3d.
The clouds here need a lot more punch, that's for sure, compared to the same scenery in v4, which has AS and ASCA installed, but I am hoping that Hifi do their magic here as well.

I'm not sure why I'm flying this aircraft, I think it's a default P3D.

However....

I've said before, this is too little, too late, and the more I see of Microsoft Flight Simulator the more I believe that MS will reclaim the throne and things will go back to the old days of one clear winner, and a few others grabbing a small part of the market where they can.

Thanks for chipping in on this one, Rob.

Yes ... I must remember to remember that default P3D always was a bit yukky - without all the doodads that make it vaguely presentable. Early days for the shader mods people to get their act together, but my big/insurmountable problem is the amount of VRAM v5 needs to run. My 4GB GTX970 (of which only 3.5GB is ever available) will never be enough to run v5 - with or without additional software.

Looking at your pics ...

... the scenery does look good (even if it isn't lit properly) but all your pics appear to suffer (like mine) from being pretty drab - compared to what we're generally used to seeing. I have a hunch that it may be DX12 related. What card are you currently using?

I agree ... MSFS 2022 is in a good position to make us throw all this half-baked rubbish out of the window (as it were) - but I think we've heard that one before!!! Mind you - they should never have given up on the franchise in the first place, the silly bu**ers! LOL.

Adam.
