Would a new PC 'spark joy'?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Chur. I've officially run out of power points in my lounge, now, I don't know how people are meant to cope in older places in the modern world. I'm charging my phone in the kitchen like the third world....
I did plan to copy my MSFS installation over, but if there's one thing I've learnt with the release is that you shouldn't try and beat the system. However in 2 hours I've completed 60% of the download, so I could by flying by 8:30.

My problem and not so easily solved:
I am waiting for friggin' Chorus to friggin' install the last bit of duct so I can get internet a little faster than my friggin' 3km rural copper wire connection.
No MSFS for me 'til then...

Wow, those have USB connections? That's what I need for the phone, and the speakers which need separate USB power. I already have two multi-strips, and one double adapter.

I feel for your internet woes, I'm just finishing a 91GB download of MFS in less than 3.5 hours, so I'm chuffed:) This is mostly to do with having 5G wifi, as I said, but probably also helped by the NVMe SSD.

Ok, install is finished, I'm off to fly.

Only in one's dream of striking it lucky with Lotto. Then one could arrange for a custom build Origin PC Microsoft Flight Simulator edition beast to be shipped out to NZ from the USA.

Check out what Origin PC sent out to PC Tech You Tube influencer "JayzTwoCents" who has 2.63 Million Subscribers. In his unboxing and setup of the Origin PC Millennium, Microsoft Flight Simulator edition video.

Flight Simulator 2020... we are in a new Crysis Era!

One could pick up a ready-built box locally which seems to have all you need.
Historically all my FS computers have cost around $4k, based on a requirement for 1-off-bleeding-edge.
It's clearly a Perceived Value market.

Yeah, at the moment it's taking up too much time, as I'm meant to be working on P3Dv5 installers, and I keep just wanting to try something in MFS.... Still, I think I've got NZCH for v5 sussed, I just want to try some toned-down ground textures, as P3Dv5 tends to have a very different tonal range.

I can certainly see a time when MFS is the only real simulator, and I can't wait to see some of my objects working in it. I've had only positive results, it worked like a charm in my old PC, and works so much better in the new one. I'm aware that not everyone has the same experience, but that was pretty much the situation with FSX. I've just installed Steam, with the intention of installing X-plane and Aerofly FS2 on the new PC, but that just doesn't grab me at the moment.

I've also looked at buying FSXse....

After 20 years of using GMAX, I've finally 'upgraded' to 3DS Max, after discovering their 'indie' license, which is about $3,000 a year cheaper. However I have so much to learn, but it is a lot of fun so far. Technology has just about left me behind, I'm 10 months away from the pension, and in the race against tech, I'm barely hanging on. Still, one thing I've learnt over the last week is that tech makes some things so much easier. And other things so much harder...
