Here are my personal thoughts on the new Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 and how it compares to FSX.
I pre ordered the simulator buying premium deluxe, for the extra custom made airports and aircraft.
I had a custom made computer built to run the simulator with the latest NVIDIA graphics card and I9 processor. The computer is linked directly into the modem. I have fiber and fairly high internet speeds
which I am blessed about because I could download the simulator in three hours.
The simulator took a while to setup and connect the controls to my Yoke, which I am running the Honey comb, the downside it takes a while to setup all the controls and they are not the same as the old
Microsoft flight simulator. The downside is camera and flight control movements are very sensitive and I cant find anywhere in the settings to change the sensitivity, If you know how to change this please let me
know.
I decided to use real world weather and do a flying trip around New Zealand, I flew out of Wellington Int with the TBM, the flight was a quick hop skip and a jump to Kapiti airport.
All i have to say its fantastic, the way the aircraft handles and it's the best simulator for VFR flying. It was easy to identify land marks, buildings ect. I used real world weather and time and flew out of
Wellington at dusk doing a night flight over the city. The graphics and lighting its amazing by far you wont be disappointed. The water quality is amazing and changes with the wind and weather.
Here is the BUT ! I know the game is in early stages but does have some setbacks. The fuel truck takes forever to arrive and when it does, it moves super slow till it allows you to fuel the aircraft.
The push back tugs are super slow on the push back, its faster to put the aircraft into reverse thrust and back your way out than wait. I found airport lighting in the middle of the taxi ways in places.
In Wellington when you spawn at one of the parking near the terminal the carpark is all mucked up there are cars right beside the aircraft with no boundary fences. There are small texture issues trees and
buildings that dont exist around the airports. You can find your house but allot of the houses all look the same, the other thing is some large buildings look flat or missing. For example Auckland has no Sky Tower in the city. There is a big black hexagonal building in its place.
Real world weather, the weather is amazing but not accurate I have found with real world. Flying out of Palmerston North it was so post to be raining according to IFFIS heavy rain. When i got there no rain
or any signs of rain. When I flew over my home town it was raining out side and in the simulator it was just cloud. I am not sure if there maybe a glitch but I hear rain but cant see rain on the aircraft or in the sky.
Missions
The simulator comes with bush flying trips and landing challenges. I do miss the missions you could take part in in FSX, There is no glider towing or any helicopters.
The old aircraft like the Dc3 are no longer in the simulator.
The simulator is well done and a huge improvement over P3D or FSX, it will be nice when they just iron some of those bugs out.
