P3D crashing around New Plymouth

Postby Chairman » Mon Nov 30, 2020 3:08 am

I have a strange thing that has started happening. I'll be cruising along in a flight when suddenly the view changes to an external camera and shows the landing gear down, then the gear starts to retract but stops and extends again, then the scenario ends and I'm back on the runway at Eglin at the start of the default scenario. When I start a new flight in whatever plane I was flying, if it is a plane where damage persists between flights (e.g. A2A) it is badly damaged. Does this sound like anything anyone recognises ?

It happens in everything I've tried the flight in, but in fairness I have just been stubbornly doing the same flight (NZSD NP HN WI NZAR - the crash happens somewhere between NP and HN) in different planes so it may be the scenery - this is the first time I've got out of the south island since I got orbx :D Currently cruising somewhere between Melbourne and Bathurst in the A2A Bonanza to see if it happens in other places.

Cheers
G.

edits :
- the flight in AUS has been going for so long now I'm starting to wish I'd bothered to refuel instead of thinking I'd only need 30 minutes fuel.
- after I realised this is probably the first time I've flown anywhere NZNP since I got Orbx NZ packs I went looking on that forum.
- reading various bits of the orbx forums there are comments about similar problems, and suggestions to turn crash detection off.
- So I've turned off crash detection and I'll see this flight through to a landing, hopefully at an airport, possibly even at Bathurst, then try the NZ version again :)
- sleep is for the weak :)

yes, turning off crash detection should fix this, the invisible wall there goes back at least to FSX, probably earlier....
Personally I think it is the taniwha, which lives in the lakes below, and sometimes rises up to judge travellers, swatting the unworthly with its massive tail.
Either that or a coding error.

I'll take the Taniwha. I don't believe that in the 14 years since FSX was released Orbx haven't figured out a coding error.

Would be nice if that warning had been just a little more prominent on the product page, but now that I know about it problem solved :)

I didn't mean to imply that this was an Orbx issue -- it goes back long before Orbx, it's just been a NZ 'default'.
A lot of developers -- including me -- recommend that you don't use crash detection, as it is just bugged enough to be a nuisance.

Fair enough, the more I looked the more people said things along those lines. I used to only fly tubeliners so I never bothered with addon scenery, now that I'm flapping around at treetop level though it's become a thing, with an unexpected learning curve :)
