MD500E

Those of you who are on the X-Plane .org may have noticed a MD500 released a few weeks back. That has now had a bit of an upgrade and a whole heap of features added. Quite good fun really.

That's a nice little bird, and nice close up shots of it.
I do understand that Xplane focusses on the flying experience, but helos go low level and for that you really do need more than 2D bushes!

Nice write up, Nick. I saw it on helisimmer.
That was nice of the creator to buy the model and then give it away.

I did have a go to start to model a 500E during lockdown (didn't get very far) but I found it very difficult to get accurate 'blueprints'. There's a bit of stuff out there, including from the official MD Manual, but none of them are perfect. A lot of the '3 view' orthographic style images don't line up when you put them together.

I'll be having a blat on this later.

Yeah, that's why those models on Turbosquid aren't a bad idea. Let somebody else do the model and concerntrate on making it work in the sim. The BO105 that's coming from a different developer is the same. The model isn't perfect as I noted in my review but it's not bad and Josh is improving on it. I'm not sure how guys get the dimensions accurate. Maybe they don't and that's why there are inaccurate 3d models around...

You got access to a 500E still? I wonder how much these guys cost? 3D Scanning Services? :D

No, moved on to bigger things now... I'm sure that'd cost more than the model would generate in income

I like it too.... Trying to get some kiwi repaints added for the next version. The paint kit is pretty damn easy but my skills are very poor so it's not a job I can undertake.

I’ll be making ZK ILO (now HCD) for the fifth time. Our friends owned it when I was a kid, brings back 2000s memories.

If I could give you some photos for repaints that you could do, that'd be great..

Looks good. Miss the helicopters very much in the MSFS. I was "at home" in Riga. In the freeware I found a great implementation of the capital of Latvia and also the water castle Trakei over there in Lithuania. I would like to go over such vantage points in the standing swell to take some pictures. Microsoft and Asobo have made a strategic mistake to still not deliver the helicopters and the good airliner also almost completely missing makes it no better.

There is a helicopter of sorts. It's not perfect but considering that there aren't supposed to be any helicopters, it's not terrible. I haven't used it myself as I can't run the new sim.
