I'm bored

Postby Splitpin » Sun Jan 16, 2022 5:25 pm

Not sure why, but I'm bored....I've got hundreds of aircraft, trains, vintage, and supercars I could fly/drive ...but I can't be bothered <_<
Don't want to read, nothing of interest on TV, can't settle on anything on youtube......too tired to mow the lawn or pull weeds.... kitten is going nuts and that drains me....Ahhhhhhh ....maybe beer is the solution
Not too much of course, back at work in 12 hours.
On a more serious note, I do feel for the people in Tonga. That must be a very scary place to be at the moment..... Kia Kaha.

Sorry to hear that Marty!
Me?... I can't ever remember a time when I was bored!
Over many years I have built up all sorts of various interests to keep myself occupied.
I have a big house full of "Toys" to play with every day...
Various computers dating from the 1980s, with all their hardware and software, all in full working order...
Rooms full of all sorts of musical instruments, strings, woodwind, keyboard, and percussion, from tin whistles to pianos and drawbar organs...
Books and magazines on all sorts of subjects...
Recording my motorcycle journeys with my various Action Cameras, and posting the results on YouTube...
Forever cooking amazing meals for myself, all day long in my kitchen, and photographing them...
...and...
...of course...
The Internet...
Exploring the world, using my big Intel Windows Tower, Gaming Computer, 24inch Gaming Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse and various Joysticks and Steering Wheels and Pedals, and crates full of computer games!

Never a dull moment for your old mate, "Fozzer".... ...!

The word; "Boredom" doesn't exist in my language.... ...!

I live in an Aladins Cave, full of surprises to entertain the heart!... ...!

Take care, all.... ...!

Paul.... :D .... :D ...!

Same. After literally thousands of hours on ARK Survival Evolved I suddenly got bored of it.
I tried to load up the MSFS I installed weeks ago and it just crashes on the screen showing the Porter and dumps me back to the desktop. I have a support case in, but even so not that interested, likely because I currently am unable to setup all my sim hardware ... and my pedals are still broken because I lack the enthusiasm to take them to pieces and see if I can fix them.
I have little enthusiasm for anything else at all. Something in the air or water maybe! :)

Sheesh, I guess I better admit to joining the bored club too, haven't flown in months. Marty (and others) I think what ya/we need is an outdoor or non-technical pursuit.

I've read a few books lately, even some fiction (heaven forbid :-) and have taken up rock climbing over the last few months (indoor initially and lately outdoor). I know I'll get back into the simming, probably over winter as the weather goes to the pack. It's good for the soul tho just to disconnect from the games once in awhile aye?

any other strategies pop to mind lads?

I really only Sim for development and testing these days but that maybe because I don't have my Sim set up all of the time. Back in the good old days, shooting was my other outlet but now it's music. I've got a couple of guitars sitting here with different tunings and I'll usually play for an hour or so a day. It's good fun.

Hmm, seems like it wouldn't be a bad idea to put together a list of likely interests for aging simmers:) Since covid I've tried painting, but really have no talent at all, there's still a huge gap between the vision in my head and what ends up smeared on paper. Beer does seem like an option, but it's too easy to overdo that at my age. I have been thinking of making my own, which kind of appeals on a number of levels. However I do live 10 minutes from Brewtown, where I can choose from a huge range of fabulous beers. I have been hopping on the train and visiting places lately, with free off-peak travel for us pensioners!!!

I tend to rely on working for interest's sake, but at the moment there's a disconnect between the work going in and the financial return. So at the moment working is kind of a bad habit which I need to overcome. I have thought about retiring, but there's still the issue of what to do with my time?

There's a lot of new places to explore here, and I have a reasonable (ok, it's a hyundai) car, but this is currently in the service of a five-month-old, with a baby seat installed and a ' baby on board' sign in the back. In a few weeks I get to take care of the kid when my daughter-in-law goes back to work (just a day a week to start) so that is worth looking forward to.

Overall, though, I really have no idea how I'll keep busy over the next decade. So keep those ideas coming....

P.S. the thing keeping me going at the moment is the thought of the upcoming Hollie Smith gig for her new album. That's one way I'm still like a schoolboy with a crush.

I'll be hitting the big 5 - O *very* shortly and I'm considering renewing my Class 2 Microlight license out of Canterbury Recreational Aero Club at Rangiora. I even just purchased the VNCs for this area, and later I'll see if I still have my e6B and can actually remember how to navigate! I'm frustrated now that MSFS isn't loading (still no word from support); maybe I'll end up putting P3D v5.3 back on there instead. I'd like to hire the Vive Pro 2 as well and see whether my aging PC can handle the higher resolution. ...aaaand, I really need to take those Saitek pedals apart and see if I can fix 'em. So no shortage of things to do ... just need the enthusiasm to kick in.
Meanwhile, about the only other thing I do is read, watch Netflix / YouTube and twice a day take the dog for a walk.

That doesn't sound good, guys.

I was probably like that a few years back, but MSFS 2020 has certainly stirred me back into action.

I'm mastering the slippery Daher TBM 930. A really nice aircraft to fly.

I completed a grand tour of the USA over Christmas, and am currently circumnavigating Australia counter clockwise. Started off in Adelaide last week, and have just arrived in Rockhampton from Brisbane. No disasters of note, and am getting a good refresher on IFR. Heading north over the next week, and will hopefully get to Darwin, maybe, Sunday. Then, heading West and South down to Perth over the next weeks.
Hopefully the next update of MSFS arrives (Australia) before I finish the tour, otherwise I might have to do another lap to see what the changes are.

Lots of fliers around the bigger cities, but there is a definite dropoff as I've headed north. Contrary to USA, where the traffic was pretty dense everywhere. But, too many novices flying the FA18. KLAX and KSFO arrivals and takeoffs were insane, with no one obeying ATC, except me and the other hardcore :-)

PS I've got so serious that I've invested in Navigraph, for charts. Also, invested in the Queenstown and Nelson airports for my NZ flights.

Bored?.... ...
Me?.... :wink2: ...
Never!!... :D ...!
I spend hours every day preparing and cooking amazing tasty meals for myself on my trusty gas stove in my kitchen full of pots and pans and magic cooking ingredients!
Breakfast, Dinner, Tea, and Supper, in that order, 7 days a week!
All good stuff for my tummy, loadsa fun, and I only weigh a measly 9 Stone 10 Lbs...so I must be doing something right!
I photograph all my meals and post the results to interested parties!
Shopping for nice stuff to cook gets me out and about on my Motorcycle almost every day, so I get lots of fresh air that way...
...and I video all my journeys on my Action Cameras, to post on YouTube for the rest of the world to enjoy!
My big, Intel, Microsoft Windows, Gaming Computer and Gaming Monitor keep me occupied with surfing the Internet and playing various Computer Games.... :P ...!
...sometimes I mow the grass outside if it's nice and sunny, and it's not raining...
..but anything to do with "work", I mostly avoid!.... ...!
So, there you go!
A lifetime of collecting various hobbies keeps me happy every day!.... ...!
Take care, all!
Paul.... .... ...!

...and I *finally* got MSFS installed, though all I have done so far is look at the settings screens and the marketplace as I have no controllers installed on my simrig yet. I'm really gonna need to fix or replace those pedals, and dig out my TrackIR as well. Trouble is, I lost my office to our eldest daughter unexpectedly returning home, so in the corner of the dining room the TrackIR simply is unlikely to work; too much ambient light and incoming sunlight. Might need to sim without it for a bit. I've also been chatting to some friends about maybe renewing my Class 2 Microlight, so baring any major disruptions maybe, just maybe, I can tip the boredom into the gutter and get back into things :)
I need to have a bit of a play with 'everything' default for a while, then I'll start looking at addons - but the goal remains the same; get the best New Zealand I can - recommendations for products gratefully received; I see there are some in the marketplace already.
Cheers

See if these help relieve you of your "boredom" Marty :)

These are my latest ....

If they do bore you "bore-stuff-less" .... then .... just warn someone beforehand to give you a thump to avoid completely nodding off and nose diving toward the floor ;)

Monumental read... looks like a full-time job!

Grafting the Comet's nose onto the Caravelle produced what must surely rank as the most gracious airliner ever.

A full time interest rather than profession .... keeps me our of mischief ;)

The rest of my features (though "some of these" are now in dire need of being re-illustrated .... and also rewritten by me given what else I've researched and learned since first presented) can be accessed "HERE" ....
https://tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/boar ... -histories

Again .... this all just "stuff I fiddle around with" (when I can) to avoid getting bored myself :)

Grafting the Comet's nose onto the Caravelle

Many don't know this was done. So far as I can determine (research-wise) .... from 1954 the future of the COMET was uncertain (due to the 2 disasters which occurred in close succession). There was actually a feeling among some within DH .... and within the UK generally at the time too .... that the COMET project should be scrapped. Given the aire of "uncertainty" that arose at that time is how, I think, DH came to allow SEA to use its COMET nose section for the CARAVELLE .... otherwise it might never have happened at all.

A couple of nose comparisons ....

COMET 1/1A

SEA later "slightly" modified the 2 flight deck side windshield panels for later CARAVELLE versions .... from the CARAVELLE 6R .... in order to further improve visibility.
