Charl, I get confused with the 25 and the 31 .... 25 Foxbat, 31 Foxhound as they look similar, and I will have to trust Dani as I cant remember.
The names, Foxbat, Foxhound are of course NATO inventions.... if they considered (or consider) an aircraft to be a fighter, it will be given a "name" starting with F, for example ...Fishbed, Forger, Farmer, and so on....as I'm sure you are aware.
Not so in Russia, at least not for international audiences, the Aircraft follow model numbers as in the west..... Boeing is a good example....with its numbering system.
And to close...if I may, some Russian aviation trivia regarding MIG's ......Artem Mikoyan (M) and Mikhail Gurevich (G). (The i in MiG is the Russian word meaning “and.”) ...Mikoyan and Gurevich = MiG.
