For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Group VFR Flight - Sunday, 20 Feb 2022 at 8pm

Postby ZK-DWF » Tue Feb 08, 2022 8:09 pm

I'm doing another group VFR flight on the night of 20 February 2022 (Sunday) starting at 8pm.

Departing Christchurch Airport (NZCH), and ending at Mount Cook (NZMC).
Along the way we will be landing (optional) at Pudding Hill (NZPH) and Tekapo (NZTL).

Should take 1.5 to 2 hours. Suits GA light and bush aircraft.

Flying will be in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Server is South East Asia.

Using Discord 'Microsoft Flight Simulator' (join up using https://discord.com/invite/msfs if not already a member) for voice traffic. Please try and have voice available. It makes its easier for everyone to know what's going on.

We will use Flight 04 in the Discord Multiplayer Room. If already used, then we will use 02 or 03. Look for me at ZKDWF

See you there, Dave (ZKDWF)

I'll be in the RV-7A again if I can get the time. Need more people to come along. We need a flock of 'em!
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Sounds like a great idea. Always wanted to fly online but been to intimidated due to lack of experience. However i am a complete novice at this Discord thing
and what one has to do. So i think i have joined up so a how to might go a long way to helping and enticing more people to join.
As long as its going to be fun thing and not to serious i want to be a starter.
Cheers

Thanks Les. Yes, it's not going to be serious.

Last time, I certainly didn't impress with my takeoff and landing - probably a case of trying not to make an arse of myself in front of others, but succeeding 100% :-)
Note to self : Do not fly a new aircraft without a few hours practice.

We are all here to learn at the end of the day, and support each other..

This time I have added opportunities to land, along the way, where last week was a long flight with nothing much happening.

Discord is rather easy to operate, as long as you get your headset set up correctly. There's plenty in the settings to make this happen.

Hopefully, we get a few more flyers along this time around, as I'd like a more packed sky.

See you there ... Dave

Yeah, just download Discord and get yourself an account setup and logged in.
Join the MS flight sim channel with this link...

https://discord.gg/e9mxrbsc

Also, perhaps, the "Long White Cloud' channel, with this link...

https://discord.gg/skXXeBTP

When we are playing, we can click on one of the 'rooms' to enter a voice chat channel and talk normally with our microphone / headset

Ahhh, I'm gutted, I totally forgot about this ... and I was only watching TV too. I think maybe I was 'licking my wounds' from a particularly poor hour of circuits on Sunday morning out at Rangiora in the Karratoo - just wasn't 'onto it' and the Karratoo has only one landing attitude (3-point) and nothing either side so needs to be precise. And yesterday morning wasn't the right morning for me.
Hope you guys had a good flight, and next time I'll try to remember to put it into phone calendar so I get a reminder.

In the end it was just Dave and I, my very first group flight for a long time, and my first time communicating via Discord. Everything worked as expected, although loading my pre-prepared flightplan seemed to mess up my controls, so I ended up just following Dave.
Very nice flight, luckily I've had a lot of time around Tekapo and Mt Cook, so I was happy with my landings there:) Cheers, Dave.

Yes, I nailed the landings this time.
I'm happy to organise another flight in two weeks time. But, it would be nice to get a few more fliers along. Until Robin arrived, I thought I was going to do it solo.
What day of the week/time suits?
Also, next time we will use the 'Long White Cloud' Discord Server, as the 'MSFS' Discord was full.

Cheers, Dave (ZFDWF)

The day / time was fine. Perhaps a 7pm start might suit me better. The problem was one of simply not remembering; I had every intention of being in there with you guys. My apologies. Next time I'll put it in my phone calendar so something beeps at me! :)
