What program is that? Don't feel too bad, that was a relatively frequent thing

... because while the tailwind does make you go faster, it doesn't help the fact that the tree at runway's end also then appears that much more quickly!

G'day Nick - a mate at CBFS posted the link: https://www.overflandersfields.com/

I don't really like bang-bang-shoot-em-ups but this one has some good features, and lots of planes, from all sides.

There is a trap in the setup, you must have DX9 installed, but you don't find that out until you get "terminated prematurely" errors
They do supply a DX9 fileset (in WOFF>Toolbox), but that is just an extractor wh puts the files into AppData>Local>Temp .You then need to go into that temp directory and run the setup from there
It works well in the Win10 flying machine, does not need internet connected to install or run (unless you want a multiplayer type thing)
Cost me AUD67 for a 10GB zipped download. I don't think they should have charged me $6 VAT, but that might have changed since last time.
Looks like a bit of fun pending the new AFS release. Lots of settings to play with, and you can be unkillable if you prefer

Charl, after being killed twice I am now recovering in hospital from a ground collision with some fool who wanted to park in my spot. More pics later, for Marty too.

I think I've heard of this before. How does it compare to Rise of Flight?

Never owned RoF, so I can't really comment. WOFF has been around for a while but this latest form is a complete rebuild with many enhancements. The environment sounds are great - even a train chuffing away :D
Must dig out my old TrackIR and pointy hat. Haven't explored the Front yet, but it is dynamic, and said to be historically correct for the dates you select.

ROF is free and then you buy most of the aeroplanes separately but they're only $2 each or something. You should download it and see how they compare. I'd be keen to get into a different WW1 sim if it was markedly better.

Some comparisons here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/70 ... n-hell-ii/

I see WOFF is single player only, which doesn't bother me. The only other combat sim I have tried was an ancient Battle of Britain game (? Lucas Films?) which let you fly for either side but not create your own missions (like bombing the c**p out of Buckingham Palace). It was fun flying, but not much else.

So the advise from that forum is... get all of them

The AI in ROF is a bit easy and yeah the front is pretty bland and boring but it looks and feels really good. I may give OFF a go at some point

Great post Mike, I'll be grabbing this one soon.
I have ROF with all the DLC, its good screenshot fodder and fun as well. The IL2 WW1 offering is pretty good as well (flying circus 1 & 2) and is still being updated.
I downloaded a 4GB update this morning that included stuff for the flying circus addition.....will post some screens this weekend... non-sim life getting in the way of what is important.

Some pics as promised, more to follow now that I know F5 toggles that mini-panel. It has its uses, but it ruins screenies.
Airfields are quite hard to spot, which is probably how it was then. Still learning the settings. One thing I like is that the devs say they introduced randomness in many areas - they didn't want to make a sim you could learn to 'beat' by knowing how many bullets it took to set fire to an observation balloon, for instance. I like that approach
The Caudron G4 is an amazing beast - taxying across the outfield to get back to the hangar, I could hear all sorts of creaks and groans as the airframe flexed on the rough ground. Sounded just like me trying to get mobile on a cold morning

It's fun, but there's a bit of learning involved. My old brain is getting closer to its use-by every day. I strongly recommend printing this pdf and keeping it handy:
https://www.overflandersfields.com/inde ... 0Print.pdf

Make sure you install DX9 as I mentioned earlier - the game won't start if you don't.
At the moment I have three pilots set up, British, French and German. That's the quickest way to change to a different plane and/or move to a different era.For example, I couldn't get the Nieuport 24 until I set a new pilot in 1917. It gave me a 23 to start with, but after I crashed that I got a 24 as a replacement :D
French Escadrille names indicate the types flown SPA=Spad, N=Nieuport, MS = Morane-Saulnier and so on.
