Airfix 1/72nd U2B/D

Postby Splitpin » Sun May 29, 2022 6:26 pm

I don't suppose any of you collectors have one of these in your stash....Found one in the states for $54 USD ($83.00 NZD+ P&P) At the time of posting this.
Happy to match that price if you have one.

Bear in mind Marty .... the AIRFIX version of that kit is "by today's standards" and old kit.

The following link will take you to the SCALEMATES information concerning that particular kit ....
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix- ... -d--138939

Seems it was first released by AIRFIX during 1983 .... and according to the following-linked (located at the bottom of that same linked page too) it's been re-released by many others since ....
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix- ... 9/timeline

Still .... what "CHOPPER NUT" has located on TRADE ME is indeed "a good price" (and that guy in Lower Hutt is "extremely reliable" to deal with too ... I've done a fair bit of trade with him in the past) .... although after some 30 years (according to the box art represented .... definitely the original/early to mid 1980's release) the integrity of the decals might, by now, be questionable since the shelf life of these (for any kit) often isn't great, so, do bear that in mind too.

Again I'd say it's "a bargain" for that price and regardless of anything else.

Geeeee in 20th century, I paid average price of 4 or 5 bucks per 1.72 or 1.48 (do not remember) scale model planes and average price of 8 bucks for 1.35 scale tanks that come with working motors which worked well on snow!!! (No kidding)

He has excellent stuff and the prices aren't too bad but his attitude leaves a lot to be desired and he puts no 'care' into shipping. I got two Sword EE Lightnings off of him and they arrived in a courier bag, not box with a bit of flimsy card taped around them and crushed at one end. I got a Special Hobby Vampire off of him that was missing a piece, he didn't care. I bought an MPM Meteor off of him and I thought I was going to be in Wellington so I said I'd pick it up, plans changed and I didn't go but at the same time I bought a Revell Hunter off of him and asked him to ship the two together (I KNOW from shipping stuff myself that it wouldn't have been any more expensive) and he ignored me. Looks like I'm going to have to march in there next week to collect it.

Nick .."he puts no 'care' into shipping" is an understatement, the last parcel I got from him had one sheet of thin corrugated cardboard, with silver duct tape, just keeping it covered..... never posts any feedback.
But he does have the stock for sure.
I see he has the old Airfix AirVan , which is pretty scarce these days..... pay day is coming :ph43r:

After this last run, once I have the kit, I'm blacklisting him. I don't care what he has.

Oh yep, I'm on all of those. I've got a couple of things off ebay too although the shipping rarely makes them particularly cheap

Never used eBay....probably a good thing, I have enough trouble explaining the parcels that arrive now :)

"STRANGE" and "SAD" .... all rolled into one :(

I've been dealing with him for just over 3 years now and in regard more than 20 kit purchases (a number of which he's really gone out of his way to assist me with in regard to required or inquired details) and I've "never" encountered a single issue/problem re either his product/s, attitude, the quality of his packaging and supply, or anything else either.

I've probably bought 10 things off of him over the last year and not one of them has been shipped properly. In addition to the above, the Hunter I got from him was wrapped in plain old brown paper. There is no way I'd ship fragile stuff like that. Out of the three or four emails I've sent him, he's replied to one... Glad you've had good experiences but I've had enough.

Choppernut and Splitpin,

How much do you pay for paints? I remember paying in 20th century 2 bucks for each of paints necessary for me to paint Israeli comflague on Israeli air force planes and on Israeli tanks

How long is a piece of string.....

Paints down here in NZ go anywhere from $2 a tin of Humbrol on sale, $5 for the mid size Tamiya up to the $20 mark for Alclads and the more exotic paints. I use Hataka for RAF camoflauge which they put out in sets for a particular airforce or era. The set of cold war RAF paints I bought were around $45 landed from Australia. They do an Israeli airforce set.

Chopper Nut,

Thanks for interesting answers. The funny thing is I cannot even remember the 20th century price of paint brushes used for painting model planes and model tanks.
