A spider had spent a long time constructing a web running from the guttering on the corner of the house, connecting to an outside table several meters away ... the engineering was fantastic, so I left it in place.
However, this afternoon, I went out to have another look at the web and found a honey bee about to be dealt with by the arachnid engineer...... I quickly cut through the supporting strands and the whole structure collapsed.
The owner did a runner, and the bee made an unceremonious landing on the pavers covered in silk ...I couldn't leave her there (I assume they are female), so I moved her into the sun, thinking if she was going to die at least she would be warm ....but....after 5 minutes warming up, she became active, but unable to fly.
So.... I spent the next 10 minutes gently removing the web from the wings, not easy on an angry bee
...finally got the wings free, and away she went ...not even a thank you (that I could hear)Other than that it was a good day, got mum home from hospital, and she's doing well ...lots of help around her.
