VFR flying around Mount Cook Area - Sunday 5 March 2023

Postby ZK-DWF » Thu Mar 02, 2023 7:40 pm

Sorry about the short notice, but here's an invitation to join our informal group VFR flight on the evening of 5 March 2023 (Sunday) starting at 7.30pm (NZDT).

We're repeating one of the most fun flights we did last year, flying around the Mount Cook (NZMC) area.

Leaving MZMC we will fly and land at Mueller Hut. Then onto Plateau Hut, and then the Tasman Glacier. Then a short flight over to a slope near Kelman Hut.
Then a flight back to land at GlenTanner (NZGT) to look at the sheep.

Be on the lookout for any static aircraft or helicopters at the ski fields.

Should take about 1.5 hours. This definitely suits a default ski plane like the Cessna 172, X-Cub or Pilatus Pc-6.
The new Mount Cook scenery by NZA is definitely recommended, but not mandatory.

Flying will be in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Server is South East Asia.
Time set is 1200 hours (noon NZT).
Weather is optional.
No flight plan, just pure VFR. I would recommend that POI is set to on, so that you can find some of the landmarks. See the image below.

Using Discord 'Long White Cloud' Server for voice traffic. Please try and have voice available. It makes its easier for everyone to know what's going on.
The Discord invitation, if you don't already belong, is https://discord.gg/TAR3v5uN

See you there, Dave (ZKDWF)

I vote the default PC-6 ... then we can see the proper model of all involved, and it has a good climb.
Will definitely try to make it.
Note the date error in the post title, btw.

Thanks Jeff ... I have amended the date.

Will be great to see what the new NZ scenery looks like.

In passing, is there a repaint for this one?

So 5th or 9th?

I'm working on this coming Sunday 5th, since 9th is Thursday ... or am I looking at the wrong calendar?
Or it could be that your short notice is for 2025, when Sunday falls on 9th. ;)

Now you have me completely confused LOL

It will be this Sunday, so it's 5 March, which is probably what I had in the first place.
