Auckland from ORBX

Postby hasegawa » Thu May 18, 2023 9:40 pm

These are the rest of the pictures from the flight over ORBX Auckland. You can judge better what is "real" and what is "Disneyland". What I miss in this scenery are helipads and a small GA airport nearby. One would wish for more airports in the north. Recommendations are welcome.

Didn't the World Update incorporate ORBX Auckland?

I'm afraid not. I bought my copy before the update.

Does it have the old Mechanics bay heli pad and I think there was another on top of one of the skyscrapers (near the Vero building)?

I have to see that. In general, New Zealand is short on helipads in the simulation. I'm gradually switching to helicopters because flying them is more intense than fixed-wing ones.

Marty, ORBX produced Auckland landmarks some time ago.
Then MS did a World Update 12: New Zealand, which brought high res and details to Aotearoa!
This overwrote and clashed with the ORBX stuff.
There is an update which I have now installed thanks to this thread, but I am seeing performance issues.
Maybe a remove/reinstall is indicated.
Flightsims do not change...

Having said that, this one really impresses with the way it handles road levels.
Those offramps/overpasses etc are spot on.

Great to see some feedback on this, it is the sort of thing which I'd normally forego if there's something which does much of what it does, which is WU12 in this case. But the OP screenshots have led me to revisit Auckland with photogrammetry, which is very impressive.
Auckland has changed a hell of a lot since I lived there, 40+ years ago. I lived in a terrible flat just beyond the gully to the left of the museum in #10, so I walked around the domain a lot. Parnell appears to have been built up a lot since those days.

An interesting landing method on the Harbour bridge. Was this a failed challenge to loop the bridge??

We better not use this variant too often. Looks dangerous. Also found the heliport and landing deck on the bank tower. The close proximity to the TV tower makes you nervous.

Nice one... I think if I managed to get it down on the ASB roof I might also publish about a dozen pictures to prove it! :D
