I watched 2 hours of History Channel today about this guy...Jean-François Champollion.....he decoded the writing on the Rosetta stone.
Fascinating stuff, and superbly presented.
Look Him up, if you're so inclined...decoded the writing on the Rosetta stone, is an understatement. He confirmed that the Egyptian hieroglyphics were part of a spoken language.
