Uber blues

Postby Splitpin » Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:38 pm

A simple ask..... two zinger burgers from KFC.
What a bloody nightmare....they take your money real fast, and the rest is just BS.
I've been waiting over an hour now....original delivery time was 18.30.
Called the outlet....they said they haven't received my order...interesting, they have my money.
Will keep you posted.

Ahhh...they found my order, and it's being prepared.... estimating delivery at 2015.
Never again, I'll go there myself.....

..including all the fun that goes with it!

I think the last time I had a "take-away", or a meal in a restaurant... was sometime in the early 1950s... ...!

I took all my tips from my dear old Mum, bless her, ever since... ...!

I envy you Paul. I detest cooking. I eat to live not live to eat. A lot of work for something that’s gone in 10 minutes!

I like this!
We get four meals of the week from "My Food Bag". Cost effective and great meals; almost all ingredients included with the recipe/instructions (add the 'staples'). We get meals for two people and it feeds the kids too, and if we bulk it up by adding something of our own then often it will do the Wife for lunch the next day too. We did drop the box for a while and try to buy the ingredients from the recipes ourselves, but it was more expensive for us to do that; don't know how they manage to turn a coin; they must be getting good prices! Anyhoo, yes, we need to prep and cook which often takes 20-30 mins but they are *good* meals; practically restaurant quality. Tthey would be if I was any good at presentation, but I just throw it on the plate; it's all getting mixed up into the stomach in one glob anyway, so...
...but we do still get take out more than we should as well; not for me you understand, but the kids ... ahem! ;)

Yes, we have done the Hello Fresh option a few times. Good recipes etc but just the shear amount of packaging was concerning. Pristine boxes only used once as well the many cooling packs and small plastic packets.
Maybe my food bag is better in this respect. Fortunately, my partner is a great cook, as is her younger son. The trouble is he uses very expensive items (mainly because he isn't paying for them) and he uses every pot/pan/dish/utensil possible. It's like a warzone when he's finished. When it is my turn to cook, I stick with my tried-and-true repertoire of about 5 dishes, and I clean up as I go.
I'm on my own until Friday (Think of all of the guilt free simming I can do!). I'm out for dinner Wed night so I only have a couple of nights to have to forage for food.

Yeah, plenty of packaging, but I keep all the boxes because, well, we seem to have moved so much and keep buying boxes each time. Never again!
I also give the 'frozen' water pouches to a friend that does grocery delivery in the area, so they effectively get recycled. But yes, plenty of other packaging in all the individual sauces and spices, and whatnot.
Like you, when I cook, and I do most often, I wash as I go when the food is easy to rinse off, not two hours later when it is dried like concrete; but no amount of 'moaning' or explaining the logic of my actions seems to rub off on the other half ... or the kids, for that matter (though my little fella is beginning to 'get it')! :)
Speaking of ... she has just arrived home, so I'd better get on with it ... easy falafel on turkish tonight for her and I, chicken burgers for the kids.

Good to see that there are so many good ways to get a decent meal. I must admit I cook just for myself most of the time, and it gets quite boring, but I do try and eat healthy.
I don't think I've ever ordered takeaways online, and I it's been a while since I visited any fast-food joint. However last Thursday my son and daughter-in-law went to Auckland for the World Cup, and I looked after the toddler. They ordered pizza for us, as there was no food in the house. So now I have experienced home delivery, all I want to know is how hard could it be to keep a pizza hot? I'll stick with my boring home cooking. (Sometimes it's pizza.)

Well, Mum taught us all to cook, not just our sister. I taught darling daughter, she taught her two boys and a girl, hubby Darren being a BBQ and pizza oven man. So I can be sure of good munchies when I get down there for a visit. Here at my place, I haven't done any proper cooking or baking for years since there's only me to look after. The menu decision tree goes like this:
1 -What wine or beer is on hand?
2 - what's in the freezer?
3 - How much washing up will result?
Basic fish and chips happens a lot, only 20 mins in the air fryer. For fun I serve it with beer, in the traditional newspaper, the only concession to modernity being baking paper as a liner instead of butcher's paper. but it's chicken pie and vegies tonight, and a nice red.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Meal times for me, every day: Breakfast, Dinner, Tea, and Supper, in that order...just like my dear old Mum always did!

When I get out of bed every morning, the uppermost thing on my mind is what I will prepare and cook for myself... a lovely tasty meal!
Cornflakes for Breakfast, quickly followed by Mid-day Dinner preparation at 10 AM.
All the necessary utensils; knives, forks, spoons, scraper/peelers, etc laid all around my chopping board on my kitchen worktop.
Pots and pans filled with water are placed on m trusty Gar Stove.
All fresh vegetables are gathered from my fridge, dismantled on my chopping board, and placed in the vegetable pot.
Sliced Spuds are placed in another pot for boiling with Sea Salt, chopped Garlic, sliced Leeks, sliced Sweed, and a whole Onion for added delight!
The Magic Onion Gravy is prepared in another pot with oil, Butter, chopped Onion, sliced Garlic, Sliced Leeks, Flour for thickening, a variety of Herbs and Spices, and the boiled water from the Cooked Vegetables, together with Vegetable and Beef/Chicken stock cube.
The Meat will be from a wide selection of "Meaty" products in my Fridge and placed in the Gas Oven to Roast, etc.
After about 30 minutes the meal will be thoroughly cooked to perfection and laid out on my Pre-Heated dinner plate, with my Magic Gravy poured all over it.
...followed by a sweet Pudding/Dessert.
The plate is often accompanied by a drop of "something fancy" at the time!
When completed, the washing up is done, followed by a long, satisfied snooze on my Settee... :sleepy: ....
...whilst waiting for Tea Time to arrive and the next meal preparation!!
...and then, what about Supper Time!!.... ...!
My greatest fear is that so much fun in the Kitchen may soon be made illegal!!.... :o ....

...and all this is just for me, living on my own.... and I only weigh 10 Stone (140 Lbs) in old money!...:D ...!

Try it...you'll like it...trust me! :wink2: ...!

Paul...... .... ...!

P.S. I photograph all my meals, and often post them on YouTube together with my Motorcycle Videos...>>> https://www.youtube.com/@paulfosbery6026/videos .... ...!
