Marty - Any date for the photo? As I recall, James's schoolmate had black hair, but I last set eyes on him sometime before I left Scotland in 1968. I'll ask him if he knows how DM got on in life, but James himself went to sea as a cadet engineer and was only home on leave or studying, for about 15 years before taking a shore job with Yarrow's shipyard at Scotstoun, as design engineer. In 1987 daughter and I saw the launch of a RN frigate (Type24?) which he had worked on. By that time Yarrow's was about to become part of BAE Systems, as shipbuilding on the Clyde continued to decline. The yard still operates, and built the aft island section of the new Queen Elizabeth carrier, but the bro was retired by then.

Ta mate - That would make my DM 26 or so...I think your chap looks a bit older than that, but who's to say?

Reply from the bro: (I asked did he know if DM had emigrated to NZ)

I never heard that. It seems an uncharacteristic thing to do. As recently as 2006 he was definitely still in the Perth area.
