Brave man to do a complete night shot, but it worked
I've flown a lot over the years, and only once I've seen another aircraft pass below on an opposing course. Flying from Dunedin to Auckland, I just happened to look out the window and saw an airliner pass under us.
The closure speed is amazing.

I remember on my 10-quid-tourist trip to Oz, we entered the stack for Kai Tak and I could see four other planes below us. When our turn came, as we ran in, the pilot politely lifted the port wing to let us see the chequerboard while he lined up on short final Then in 1980, darling daughter and I were on the LHR-EDN shuttle, and about halfway I spotted another Trident coming the other way at about my 10 o'clock. It was well clear and it zapped past in no time, but it seemed to be on our level, although it must have been 1000' lower. Didn't look like it
