Where and what

Postby Splitpin » Wed Dec 13, 2023 5:17 pm

This is a bit of a quiz for the team.... first correct reply received will get.....ummm..... a signed photo of ....ME !! Woof, what more could you want....blow it up and hang it in the lounge....break out your best booze, and bring Granny around for a viewing.
So, as per the subject line...where am I ? ....Should be a given for locals, but.... what am I flying...well not me actually....was a screen grab from an MSFS review.

:D A remarkable shot, so to speak...the RPM and MAP indications look a bit suss, though. Apart from the steam gauges, the view reminds me of an old favourite, the Piaggio Avanti. A Beech Starship, by any chance?

Marty, you don't even need a flight simulator!
The stuff you bring us... like Caribou.
And yes, it is a Reindeer.

There's a different Reindeer in Neville Shute's 1948 novel "No Highway". One of my favourite books, and the 1951 movie is pretty good, too. This is the blurb for the paperback:

"Theodore Honey is a scientist with an interest in the paranormal and a job testing metal fatigue in aircraft. When a new transatlantic plane, the Reindeer, is found to have crashed in Labrador, Theodore believes he knows why. The scientist is sent to the scene of the crash. En route to Canada Theodore learns he is flying in a Reindeer and is in danger."

Taking this way off track...because I can.
But there is a connection...sort of... Reindeer....Moose....related.
What was that 90's TV show based in Canada or Alaska.... based around a small community involving a doctor, a general store, and a local female pilot.
It's been driving me nuts, and I don't want to go to Google.
The opening scene was a Moose walking down the main street...I think.
