An interesting beast, no doubt inspired by the single Bristol Olympus-engined Vulcan used as a Concorde test-bed :o

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

In terms of appearance, it's actually a nice aircraft. She looks sleek.

The F4D Skyray is a forgotten thing. Comparable in performance to the Hawker Hunter, the Dassault "Vautour" and the MiG 17. Known by one episode. When the Cuban counter-revolutionaries attacked Cuba with B-26s shortly before the Bay of Pigs invasion, some F4Ds from an aircraft carrier were supposed to be used to secure the retreat. Due to a planning error, namely not taking time zones into account (!)
The Americans arrived too late and several B-26s were shot down. April 17, 1961...
At that time, the Castro Air Force only had Lockheed T-33 and Hawker Sea Fury available. It would have ended badly for them if the Skyrays had been there. The story was in the autobiography of Alvaro Prendes,

Love it. The US Navy used to call them The Ford because of the F4D designation. I think its shape certainly lives up to the Skyray name,
