Postby ZK-DWF » Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:33 pm

Our informal group is doing another VFR flight on the evening of 21 July (Sunday) taking off at 7.30pm (NZDT). Anyone is welcome to join us.

Departing Albertville (LFKA) and heading to Basel-Stadt (LFSB)

We'll follow a north easterly track performing 'touch and goes' at the following locations :

Megeve (LFHM)
Mont Blanc (LFHZ)
Sion (LSGS)
Saanen (LSGK)
Reichenbach LSGR)
Interlaken (LSMI)
Belp (LSZB)

before landing at Basel Mulhouse (LFSB)

This should take about 1.5 hours.
The default plane is 2 engine - Baron, Diamond, etc.

Flying will be in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Server is West Europe.
Time set is 1200 hours (noon NZT).
Weather is optional.

Using Discord 'NZ Flight Sim' Server for voice traffic. Please try and have voice available. It makes its easier for everyone to know what's going on.
We are using a new Discord Server tonight. The Discord invitation, if you don't already belong, is https://discord.gg/JSRUPU76 (this invite link never expires).

The flight plan is here

See you there, Dave (ZKDWF)

I"m not set up for online flying, but I would love to see someone have a go at a Megeve TnG in a Baron!
Lovely route.

If you know how to use Discord, one of us could stream video footage whilst flying the route?

Charl, I'll have to find it first  Even though it is not in the AFS4 airports database, it should be visible 'on the photo' like Interlaken is, but I can't see it. It should be 0.1nm (600') behind me.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Oh I was trying to show my complete ham-handedness regarding anything more complicated than the On/Off switch!
Got even that wrong...

Mike I installed all the French altiport sceneries in FS9 and know them well; while Megeve is no Courcheval, it is fairly tight for anything less agile than a motor glider as I recall.

Let's bump this thread ... by highjacking it slightly!
I'm assuming the online flying is in MSFS 2020?

Why I'm interested in Megeve is I have this fond memory of flying the altiports, as mentioned, in FS9.
So on an old external backup drive I dug out some 8-year old clips from that 20-year old sim.
Shot in FRAPS which was a on framerates, and in .AVI format no less.
Nonetheless I managed to cobble them together, sorry too lazy to edit properly (title excepted).
Looking through the 3 minutes I was struck by how good the aircraft and crafted sceneries were in that sim.
All it needed was some hi-res world environment.
It's why I love MSFS 2020

And TnG in these airports is tricky as they are essentially one-way traffic due to the terrain.
Best take a helicopter. :D

Flying is on MSFS 2020 yes. As a side note, do you know what Discord is?

Those graphics bring back memories for playing Flight Sim in my bedroom when I was a small...crazy how much of a change there has been between that edition and the current one (and also 20 years!)

Yes. However I fall solidly outside the under-35 demographic, and have difficulty ending sentences with Dope. Yeah, probs :D

Nice to see younger folk on this forum though, although you don't need to quote an entire post when replying!
(I helped you there.)
