Battling with the beast

Postby Splitpin » Wed Aug 14, 2024 7:12 pm

The title is probably a little cruel, from all accounts the 747 is, or was a Pilots aircraft, and as much as I love it...it hates me back in spades...sim wise.
Early this morning, I set up a 10 mile approach into Sydney...in an 8F. a whole lot less work to do solo than the 2 or 300.
However , the scenario starts ...in my opinion, too high and too fast...But, I did manage to get the big bird on the ground....the last bounce almost put the starboard engines on the tarmac...
More practice required.

As they say, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Any landing where the aircraft can be used again is a superb landing.

Nice action shots alright, I mean just look at all that smoke!
Love what's going on in the 1st shot, every bit of submachinery hanging out doing its work.

I often have the place to myself most of the day, then Doug gets up. Next is a brief appearance by Charl, and then you get home from work. AFS community dev apfelflieger has revised Brunobellic's AFS2 Kai Tak and it now behaves itself in AFS4. I downloaded it earlier today. There are 4 aircraft including a Concord doing T&Gs. and buses, cars and trucks moving around the town. I was actually overtaken by a Concord while landing on the grass to the south of the runway :o

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Yes my generally verbose posts are generated offline, and uploaded in a flash!
Kai Tak:
Back in the day, I had no less than three retired airline pilots and a Flight Engineer clustered around my (Then New) State of the Art flightsim.
They reveled in piling on the pressure as I made my first clumsy attempts in a strong easterly, to get around the Checkerboard.
White knuckle stuff, and they made sure I understood that they had done All That, more than once, in real life.
Many tales emerged.

Kai Tak was “the sport of kings”. Spent many a day on top of the chequerboard watching arrivals. The trick was to actually go slightly left of the LOC course once visual and resist the temptation to cut the corner. It gave more track miles and better positioning on to final.
